Twitter hate toward Emily

The BBC don't have a say in who gets booked. Their choice is limited to who they want to film (and the acts can say 'no').

There's a lot of different bookers, but mostly they're one for each individual stage. Emily and her hubby Nick book the Pyramid nowadays perhaps with some Michael input, and perhaps with some input from just one or two others (Martin Elbourne, etc).

Relieved to hear that

Any kind of abuse would be ridiculous even if someone clearly not 'headliner standard' was booked (did anyone care this much when Basement Jaxx replaced Kylie??) but Florence is clearly a headline act now, she's had 3 consecutive number 1 albums and is everywhere no matter what you think of her personally. Dunno if I'll be there cuz Hot Chip but she'll smash it and will deserve the positive attention she gets. She loves the festival too even if she's a bit over the top.

Bands have been pulling out of festivals for years. Nothing new there. The problem is the public has become too demanding and treat festivals like any other "product". The moaners can just shut the fuck up. When you are dealing with artists at this level you can't just make a call, agree a fee and get them to show up. GFL always work hard to please their audience.

Treat Glastonbury like any other product.

Glastonbury has become an institution now, everyone is aware of it. A lot of it down to the BBCs coverage. And people love a moan about institutions.

Yeah I wouldn't imagine saying the cover of You've Got the Love (or You've Got the Dirtee Love) was bad would even be that unpopular an opinion with Flo's fans. And all he's said is that he doesn't know their stuff other than that; many people pan Sleaford Mods because they dared insult Kasabian whilst never giving their music a proper go so just as bad I suppose.

Looking forward to seeing both.

I'm not a Flo fan so I won't be there, but I can't wait for Sleaford Mods. Excellent act.

really? I suspect there will be a little twinge at the back of their mind that they know they werent thought to be good enough first time round.

Possibly Russy, possibly.

Although - equally likely - I suspect there might also be an element of 'we're number fucking one both sides of the Atlantic we've fucking deserve this' in the back of their minds too.

These are musicians / performers, with the egos that go with that.

It's whether Flo and the Machine have the nuts / talent (luck, whatever) / ego / self-belief to grasp this opportunity and produce the goods...to 'own it' to coin a phrase I'm not keen on.

And I reckon they just might.

Are you gonna give 'em a watch, like Kanye, Jay-Z, etc?

Really can't understand the element of surprise at Florence being upped to headline

Keeping in mind the short notice of the Foo Fighters cancelling I'm really not sure what people expected? The idea it's been done to save the festival money; annoy regular festival goers or to appease the BBC seems a bit mad

Looking at headliners since 2000 there has been a steady move to either "legends" playing one last greatest hits set - Stones, Stevie Wonder, Who etc, or current best selling acts that appeal to a reasonably wide audience - like the killers, Muse, Beyonce etc

Both types have big fan bases, but aren't everyone's cup of tea, and you can argue some have been more successful than others

Florence clearly isn't everyone's cup of tea, but certainly fits the bill of being popular (in record sales terms), British (which is good for a UK festival) and does have some history at the festival having played smaller stages and worked up the line up

Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but its hardly like the festival has booked a total dud and run off with a big bag of cash into the Sun Set

I've not read the Twitter face book stuff, if it as bad as you say it is then that's a shame.

People seem to forget that this is a commercial venture, as good as how cool it is, it is still a profit making venture. It's not free, it's not done out of the kindness of the Eves's heart.

People have the right to complain, however, there are lines.

I'm unhappy about the change, I was looking forward to seeing the food, I don't particularly care for Florence but accidents happen etc etc. where there contingency plans?

Hopefully they will get someone to fill the gap left by moving flo up.

Imagine paying in advance for a set menu meal, you go, they say unfortunately the main course is off but we've moved the starter to main course but there isn't a starter, oh and the cost is the same.

Would you complain.? Even if it was a cool restaurant.

There are better ways of complaining than dishing a load of shit out on Twitter but unfortunately I don't think there is a complaints path!,

Won't let it spoil my time there, I'll just use the time differently, pity tho.

Peas and gloves folks, peas and gloves.

I hope Flo smashes it.

I've absolutely no interest in seeing her but ... I agree 100%.

She's incredibly popular (even if not with me) and deserves to headline at least as much as many of the headliners we've had over the years, and I hope she grabs it with both hands and makes the most of it. Huge numbers will love it.

That's a totally valid arguement. If you got a ticket in the resale. If not you bought before the menu was published anyway.

Yes but they didn't have Twitter so they had to stick to yelling at random women in the street instead.

Is it? The ticket T&C's for these things always explicitly state that when you buy a ticket you do so in acceptance of the fact that any advertised line-up is liable to change. Edited by Zac Quinn

It wasn't going to be anyone other than Flo. A week to find a replacement, negotiate with the BBC for broadcast rights and not have to spend a fortune paying to play at short notice. Never going to bring someone else in.

So many people think this festival booking lark is like Football Manager!

I won't be seeing them, SFA all the way for me, but I just wish they'd been booked from the start instead of the foo dullards. This is a shitty way to be given your first headline slot.

The festival could have made a big statement by booking them from the start. Female lead singer, worked their way up etc. I just cannot fathom why they picked foo fighters initially. A missed opportunity.
