Wellies are for amateurs. Walking boots all the way, don't get ruined by mud and gaiters are fabric contraptions with a zip that stop water coming over the top of your boots and make anyone arguing that Wellies are better than walking boots' argument null and void. 2005 + 2007 battle proven.

I am now a boots convert.

Karrimor KSB Skido boots from Sports Direct online - £30 plus £5 delivery

When you collect them you get a free £5 voucher

Gaiters from SD = £9.99 for Karrimor ones

Total outlay if you take into account the discount £39.99

Insoles I already have (gel orthotic ones) £2.99 from ebay per pair

A set of Hunter Wellies is about £50 minimum in mens sizes, and they arent even cushioned I don't think.

I am breaking in my boots as we speak. My feet feel like I am walking on sheepskin carpet! Lovely. I will never use wellies again!

Does anyone know if the camp site shop sell Gaiters? I am going to take walking boots instead of Welliies this year but not sure if I should get any, weather dependent of course as I've always taken wellies, this will be my first year with boots.

Has only got any decent (and cheap) tips for making bog standard wellies more comfortable? Other than wearing football socks.

Gel insoles and wear 2 thin pairs of socks rather one thick as this helps to stop them rubbing your feet.
