Regardless of personal opinion, this Nandos = The Wire comparison has feet of clay.

People who dig TV generally tend to acknowledge the intelligence and scale of The Wire, whereas yer real foodie snobs, the folk who know their goose barnacles from their andouillettes, wouldn't be seen dead going for a cheeky peri peri chain restaurant meal.

I'm only trolling really. I don't watch TV shows. Outside of the odd show here and there. Rapidly realising fiction in general terms is a bit of a waste of time.

They're all fairly shit to be honest. Watched all of Boardwalk. Shite at times. Season 3 of Sherlock. Shite. Season 3 of House of Cards. Shite. First 5 episodes of The Wire. Shite. 24. Shite. Few episodes of Game of Thrones. Shite. Ive seen maybe 2-3 good movies in the last couple of years aswell.

The amount of time spent watching these shows? Madness. 13 hours per series etc. No thanks.

I like my food. Nandos is shite. Nothing to do with being a foodie snob. Its just...well.....shite. Its the price thats insulting.

Radiohead

Well thats a given!

Yes yes. So to sum up, Nandos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Southpark and most of the food at Glastonbury. All overrated. A few of them are complete shit.

Oh you

As a socioeconomic phenomenon, maybe it's buying space in 'shopping malls' and providing consistency across all the chains, so young and trendy people (my benchmark is less than 47 years old) see a familiar site and get sucked in to a vacuum? I see these places at White Rose, Meadowhall, Leeds, 'Ikea' in Leeds. I'd prefer (much) better quality but I've eaten there (the shame, but I blame my step-kids, who fortunately get their dad to take them more often), but what grates for me is the faux heritage of Guiseppe coming over from the old country with his family recipe and preserving the old ways, when it's patently made in South Kirkby and shipped in. Obviously that's not Guiseppe in Nando's btw.....

And no, I want an accompaniment, not fucking sides.

But McDonalds is everywhere too. I suppose they've managed to combine familiarity and it being something a bit special and different.

There's a pub up here in Gosforth called the Brandling Arms which does a tremendous selection of burgers. One particular monster is the 'dirty thoughts of Cheryl Cole'. It includes a Greggs Sausage Roll and Heinz Beans within it.... Byrons it's not, which is no bad thing!!

That sounds pretty incredible, the Hobgoblin here in Bristol does some pretty good burgers.

Surely McDonalds is the antithesis of special and different.

Yeah that's what I meant. Nando's is as familiar as McDonalds but still manages to seem 'different'. To people with very limited experiences or expectations obviously.

Yes, fair point. Maybe McD is the Ford Model T and is the 'workhorse' of junk food, cheerily starting our day with coffee, so that Grandad isn't frightened by those hoodies, because they share (an expensive, small portion of) 'fries', and hardworking people can tuck into those healthy happy mcBreakfast for only 99p, yum yum.

So, other food (loose term there) establishments can put up vintage posters and claim some wonderful heritage to get those suckers in, and charge more for bringing foreign quality to us.

Street food. How is it, that the world's cheapest way of feeding town and city folk, decreases portions and increases costs when it hits the UK? I'm not sure this is in the Tariff Treaty to defend against polenta, samosa and pulled pork imports.

Overrated - The Clash, Disney Channel, football, Nando's, White Rose Centre, low-slung jeans to be trendy.

For my quick chicken fix ... KFC > Nandos ... Every time.

I go to my local no name, rat infested chicken shop. £2 for 4 wings and chips sorts me right out.

And now I want chicken wings and I only had them last night (baked and slathered in Franks hot sauce mmmmmmmmm). I'm such a fatty.

People actually eat in these sort of chicken places before 2am? On a weekday? Sober? I never knew!

It does sound tasty though.

Passed one of those places in London last time I was there. NFC the place was called which stood for 'Nice Fried Chicken'

Sounds legit..

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
