Is GFL arrogant?

To answer the question, depends if they shft their tickets or not doesn't it? If they don't give out the lineup details and it doesn't sell out/people chose other places than its arrogant, if it sells out, its well placed confidence.

I think there is a lot more arrogance in this thread than from the Festival itself though, about anyone who might go for the lineup, there could be a hundred reasons why that might effect someone's decision, just as there are a hundred other reasons why most of us in here are happy to pay it the balance blind expect for the 'spirit' we know it has.

Seems to me that part of the fun is the build up to the line up announcement. Every year, the rumours and speculation make it all the more delicious! But it really is the icing on the cake if you get any favourite bands, and of little consequence if you don't :)

I speak for myself only here of course!

Roughly translated...

Punter: Shit, forgot to pay my balance. I can't possibly accept the blame for this, I'll claim I never got a reminder.

See: Nice try dick head. Now piss off.

I had this debate on another page when some others were giving it the big potatoes about Kanye. The point is:

■ Would we like to know - Yes

■ Do we have a right to know - No

I'd like know lots of things. Specifically the secret blend of 11 herbs and spices KFC uses.. but these brands like the festival is under no obligation to tell me what I'd like to know. We buy our tickets and take a punt. We don't curate the line up. The eavii do this for us and sometimes it might suit, gauranteed there will be horrible clashes but this business model continues to build the hype which makes demand outstrip supply....

In terms of "arrogance" there are many more brands I'd put ahead of glastonbury festival in any list.

The whole festival isn't confined to music. People want to go for a multitude of other reasons too (should that really have that extra o there?). That's one of the reasons why people will pay £200+ for a ticket. It's not any old festival. This one waltzes you full on for 5 full days. You get to forget the outside world and live for a while in this fairytale happening. There's a myriad amount of other stuff goes on apart from the music. Friendships are made, people are happy, moments are shared. And that's completely ignoring all the other entertainment that the festival provides which isn't music based.

So to conclude, I'm with the poster way back who said that tickets would still sell out as fast even if no musical acts were made known before ticket sales day. Look at the lengths people go to in order to get in illegally because they just 'have' to (now I'm wondering if that shouldn't have another o?). Everybody and his mom wants to be at Glastonbury.

Arrogant is a bit strong - but we should certainly be allowed to voice opinions about it without being drowned by sycophantic love. The weekend now costs around £300 for the ticket and travel - or £400-500 for the average punter, depending on frugal/liberal people are, all-in. I'd like to see more of the main stages being open on the Thursday, at least for a half day. If a few bands that'd otherwise only play one set did a second, clashes would be less of an issue. Perhaps health and safety restricts them and they'd rather preserve the ground for another day if it's likely to be a muddy one...

There is a slight element of guilt tripping people that attend by car too. Obviously, coaches are more environmentally friendly and alleviate traffic slightly - but if it's £70 or more from London and a car share is £15-20 and you can take more food/drink, it's a no brainer!

That's the licence stopping them from putting more acts on, though there has been an increase in live performances in the last few years.

So putting a question out there for debate is arrogant?

Pull your tongue out of GFLs arse

But GFL's arse tastes so sweet. They have looked after me, loved me long time. xD

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
