yep you're right

thank god for that encore or i'm sure people would've been ready to have a little cry

To be fair, there are a few more upbeat numbers in there than I remember - but even that can be counteracted by the fact that the act on before them were The Stereophonics.

Also never seen Blur (young'un and all) - none of these late 90s sets have Caramel though which is sad. If I wanted a proper miserable set I think a 13-era Blur would be up there for me. (I quite like a miserable set... maybe that just says something about me.)

edit: Just looked it up - seems like the first time they played it was Maida Vale 2012! Blimey.

  1. (with Phil Daniels) (& Harry Enfield)
  2. ("Bugman" and "Oily Water"more )
  3. Encore:
This is the setlist we got in 2012, practically perfect. The encore was certainly the highlight though. I was at the front, so I didn't experience any sound problems

That's the setlist for Hyde Park 2012 isn't it? I was at that gig and luckily was in a spot where the sound was good, absolutely amazing night. That setlist is superb as well.

I got that but with Oily Water instead of Colin Zeal (and the puritan in there i think) at Wolverhampton the week before. Amazing gig, hopefully a small venue again this time instead of hyde park

I seen an article where it mentioned Scotland and Wales for the warmups. Not sure if that is it or if they're doing some more in England as well. I'll be trying for Scotland if they don't play any closer to Newcastle though. Can't justify the £300 it would cost for Hyde Park only 3 days before I leave for Glastonbury.

also i know it's a bit of a shit song but i'd love them to start playing Charmless Man. don't think they've played it since they reformed surprisingly

One of my favourite Blur tunes! If they play it has to be there this time out!

Unless I've also got it completely wrong, Pulp played the other night with a This Is Hardcore heavy set.

I'd love Pulp to do a This is Hardcore heavy set!!! What a fantastic show that would be!

Same. My favourite Pulp album. Went to see them in Sheffield in 2012 and was chuffed to get A Little Soul, Help The Aged, Party Hard as well as This Is Hardcore obviously. Think they were meant to play Dishes and The Fear as well but couldn't fit it all in.

I don't think they will stick to just singles outside of the new stuff. I don't think there is likely to be anything from Think Tank outside of Out Of Time either. Damon was saying the other day how there's some right stinkers on that album and he doesn't count it as a Blur album. I like it myself, especially Ambulance and Battery In Your Leg.

They'll open with Girls and Boys until the day they die (except the odd show)

Edit: This had nothing to do with your quote, sorry. I love Charmless Man though, I'd love to see it live but I can't see that happening

Out of Time is fantastic, but I'm not massive on the album as a whole

ha well I wasnt one of them! They charge more than any other band I've seen at that venue (that I've been interesting in seeing anyway).

I was.

Although what I said was that I'd found in an arena they charged pretty much the same as anyone else. In an academy style venue they charged exactly the same which is clearly more than everyone else would charge for a smaller venue (apart from The Specials).

13 is a very good record indeed. I remeber it coming out and just blowing me away. Chimed perfectly for my life at that moment. I might need to revisit 'Think Tank'. Not lsitened to it for ages. Personally I love the second half of 'Blur'

    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
