Very strong Glade line-up. I do hope that the big techno hitters are scheduled against competition. Avery b2b Fearless a couple of years ago was amazing selections and great sound...with a dodgy crowd and waaaaaaaay too many people.

Been wanting to see IMOGEN forever, so fingers crossed for a good slot for her with DA.

Note: to my eternal disappointment, unless there are names there I've never heard of, it seems that 2025 will not mark the triumphant return of psytrance to the Glade 😔. Fingers crossed I might find some somewhere else.

Damian Lazarus might get a bit psychedelic, Ben. You a fan?

Yeah, he can get nicely floaty, but he ain't playing full on sweaty psy at 140bpm, and I used to bloody love that on the Thursday in the Glade Lounge and then, just once I think, on Sunday in the inaugural year of the Glade Dome!

Who is in the Amelie Lens club then?

I go to Pukkelpop in Belgium every year and in 2016, Eric Prydz was supposed to play on a big stage they have just for DJ's called the Boiler Room (nothing to do with the other one - PKP named theirs about 20 years ago). He was live on Radio 1 from V Festival in Chelmsford the night before but then decided to cancel PKP on the morning, which I was really annoyed about.

They managed to get a local DJ to fill in at short notice and it was Amelie Lens. She was still up and coming then even in Belgium, and pretty much unknown outside the country, so it was a massive break and I'm guessing the biggest crowd she'd played to at the time. We went along to watch and were really impressed by her set - proper driving techno but with just enough melodies, bass lines and the odd vocal to make it fun and interesting. She really blew up after that and starting getting lots of bookings at clubs in Belgium and then further afield for the likes of Awakenings and Timewarp. She's back again this year (her and Charlotte De Witte basically alternate each edition) and there's always a great atmosphere - the locals quite rightly love to celebrate their homegrown talents!

She’s very sonically adept (w*nky phrase, sorry). My mate plays a similar style and when he’s downloaded tracks (thats she’s played in her sets) he says he can’t get them to sound anything like she does…

I went to one of her Exhale nights and it was insane how much better she was than any of the support DJs (possibly with the exception of Volvox who was epic).

GLADE OR LONELY HEARTS THOUGH?

Really depends on the programming, for me.

The sound on Lonely Hearts for Max Cooper > Helena Hauff > Daniel Avery was genuinely superb. I was blown away, considering it's an unenclosed outdoor stage. My experience with the new Glade is that its sound is a step or two below that - I can only think it's the way the acoustics of the tent canopy handles the sound. Also, it's always been very, very chatty when I've been in the new Glade, tho that might have been as it was still early (1-2am-ish) and also the Thursday night when it's everyone's first dance proper so, y'know. My issue with Amelie on Lonely Hearts is that she's on a Friday night line-up where she sticks out, for me, as kind of out of place. I'm hoping she's given, say, a 2330h/midnight slot, so I can see her before bombing to the SEC. That's all assuming that Arcadia doesn't have a stellar techno line-up on the Friday, like last year.

I like Amelie a lot, but there are a few versions of her. Around 2019 she was just phenomenal, in terms of selection and set flow. She then seemed to jump aboard the ever growing train of playing techno faster and faster, with hugely reverbed kick drums, lots of breakdowns and slightly tedious big drops. She more recently seems to have gone more psych/trancey, which is great (for me!) but she does do the cheesy drop a bit too often for me still 😆. Anyway, if I can make the LH set then the Glade one is less of an issue.

Any other tech trance recommendations in your box Ben?

No, not really yet - tbh, until Arcadia/Common/Block9 drop, I don't tend to do a huge amount in terms of listening and planning as those three are always my mainstays. In a way, I'm sort of 'glad' that Silver Hayes has less for me than the last couple of years, as its position always makes me nervous of lost time hooding it to the SEC. Saying that, I had the usual military operation planned last year, leaving Arcadia at 0255h to jog to the SEC entrance and beat the Dragonfly/SH outwash, only to find the gates closed as the Corner was 'full' and he held there for 20 minutes.

Don't these people understand the precision that is involved in my Glastonbury nights??

A bit more digging has uncovered:

Eli Brown (Glade Dome) - more trance than tech-trance, but he plays pretty hard and can slip into a bit of a psy vibe too.

Tommy Holohan (Glade Dome) - more Hard Dance, but tempo-wise might interest trance fans.
