Festival Experience

Hi

I'm doing my PhD research on the festival-goer experience at UK Music Festivals. I was wondering whether you would like to participate by completing my survey (and sharing it with your friends) the link is npcrrkk
It takes on average about 6-7 minutes to complete and you can drop out at any time if you change your mind. The results may contribute towards shaping the future of music festivals and the festival-goer experience.
I would greatly appreciate any help!
Many Thanks,

So, a couple of comments.

Communicating with a festival and about a festival via social media are two very different things. One matters to me and one doesn't but you have compounded them into one question.

And why do you ask where people lived for their first 20 years and not most recent time?

Its not going to change the world is it. Do you actually go to festivals? Do you realise that its not possible to generalise ones experience if you go to many festivals? None of these questionnaires ever seem to understand that,

Done though I'll still be fascinated to find out how you turn the questions into anything meaningful.

Curious that you wanted to know where I lived for the first 20 years of my life but not where I've lived for the majority of my life or where I live now.

Wow, you're doing a PhD in music festivals? That's amazing. How did you wangle that? Not meaning to belittle your degree but how do you get three years of work out of that? I've literally just stopped working for today on mine. Just in one day, it's taken me to Kant, Friedman, Dworkin, Rawls and much more. I feel like I've been mugged off a bit.

Good luck with it though!

same with me as the first 20 years I lived in Scotland but I then spent the last 40 years in England so cant really understand why it was worded that way .

Hi,

First of all, sincerely thank you all for contributing, I really do appreciate it and I am very grateful.

In answer to some of your questions...

Yes it is me in my photo.

Yes I do go to Music Festivals.

I 'wangled' studying for my PhD in Music Festivals as that's what I'm interested in and passionate about. I did my BA (hons) in Event Management and my research interests lie in Service Quality/Customer Satisfaction and I started this off by wondering 'why do people spend so much money and spend X amount of time sleeping in mud when they could be abroad somewhere sunny all inclusive for a week...' so I decided I would find out. Obviously there is a lot more to do with it than that...Also I am studying part time so I'm currently in 3 out of the 6 years.

I do agree that we cannot generalise people's experiences especially when people attend many different music festivals, but this research is to see if there are any theme's or common issues amongst people that go to music festivals. Also, that is why there is a question asking how many times you have attended festivals and which ones in order to differentiate.

The 'first 20 years' are usually where we we develop our expectations. Your current location may not have influenced this unless you have lived there for much longer than where you grew up, but some studies show that might not even change what you base your assumptions on, hence me asking for the first 20 years.

Communicating with or about a festival via social media, is more about your engagement with a festival using social media, regardless of whether it is direct communication which is why it is combined and there is another questions about feeding back. But I am glad you mentioned that, thank you.

I do intend to publish my research when it is finished, and I am in communication with a few festival organisers/companies who have participated in the research and would like to see the end result of my research, so it 'may influence the future of UK music festivals'.

And apologies for not including a 'rather not say' option, there are reasons why I haven't but I do appreciate that you have contributed, so thank you.

There are a few generalisations in this, I'm looking to answer more than one research objective with this survey and so it isn't feasible for me to be 'less general' in some of the questions, but that is also why I will be doing more qualitative research next year.

I hope that helps with some of your questions, and I am glad to see your responses here as well. Thank you for filling it in, and please feel free to share the link with any of your friends/family.

Alyssa

Done, but my answers are really only about one festival. It's a special one :-)

Well it is a special festival forum after all :)

Nice of the OP to respond and answer questions. Fill it in folks, help the lady with her Doctorate :)

There doesn't seem to be an option if you are in a relationship, but not living with your partner. Also I tend to go to festivals with my partner and friends, that doesn't seem to be an option.

I've ended up putting that I'm single and attend festivals with my partner, which doesn't feel entirely accurate :)

Also as a web developer I don't feel any of the occupation descriptions fitted me that well

    • Meanwhile Gracie Abrams is £92 for the cheapest with the average price around £160 for lower tier and £103 standing.   First time in a while I've gone from a definite yes to a definite no on price alone.   Amble was £31 this morning.
