has anyone else noticed that 6music is playing a hell of a lot more Prince in the last week or so than is their normal?

You're not suggesting that 6music know more than you do are you Neil? Seems unlikely they'd have knowledge of the third headliner

This is what happened for Rockslide in 2010 according to Prince Vault: "

  • Tickets for this festival were already on sale when Prince was announced to be playing the festival on 20 April, 2010. It was expected for Prince to be the headliner on the final day, but this was not officially announced before mid July."

I doubt they know anything with certainty, tho I do know that someone there is of the belief it's Prince (or was a few weeks back).

Someone likely to actually have access to that information? If not I'd say that it's 6music guessing that it's Prince and playing in anticipation... Fundamentally if we all controlled the radio then it would be a Prince/Bowie/Roses mash up (with Shake it Off thrown in once an hour for good luck.)

Seems unlikely that it actually means anything other than that they are sharing our speculation

The BBC are a very major stakeholder in Glastonbury so its very likely the know the headliners.

while it's not impossible that someone there does - tho i'd say it's not too likely when the info is locked down as tightly as it is - I'd also say it's hugely unlikely that that info has been diseminated widely within the bbc.

So if anyone does know, it's only likely to be the person responsible for the tV broadcasts, so they can start talking about whether it gets broadcast with the act.

Don't hang yourself just take yourself back to your tent and play Top Trumps !

Reminds me of 2008

I had arranged to meet a friend of a friend at the Cider Bus before Massive Attack. Now one of our group hated Massive Attack but Jay Z more so instead of spending the evening in his tent decided to come to Massive Attack but had done a fair bit of brandy before hand to get through the torture of a two hour set. . Sat at the cider bus he looked a bit weird.

I met the friend of a friend and introduced her to our group and we sat and chilled by the cider bus for a bit

Looking at my mate who had not said a word she asked

"Is your friend on drugs ? "

"No he just does not like Massive Attack " came the reply from one of our lot.

15 minutes into their set he had had enough and walked off

" Where is your friend going ? " she asked

"Back to the tent to kill himself " came the reply from the back

They're not playing more than usual. They always play a lot of Prince - much more as a proportion of his work that they play of other artists with a similar back catalogue.

In fact, in his response to a 6music survey last year, Mr P&aP complained about the (in his opinion) disproportionately high amount of airplay Prince gets on the station. He loathes Prince... I quite like Prince, although I agree with MrP&aP's assertion that 6music plays him too much.

someone who might have got hold of the info, yep - either from the fest or more likely from other places.

As I say, I do know that someone there is under the impression that it's Prince.

    • I agree but anyone under Rodrigo would be a sub in reality, that day would sell out in under an hour whoever is subbing, in which case Wolf Alice would make a lot of sense   The more unrealistic part of the scenario at this point is Rodrigo headlining
    • All you can say is...     If he couldn't convince nations that really would've benefitted from the short-term hit of an up-front £50mil payment by this time next year, what hope did he have?   Guess we'll now just have to monitor and see if this could derail Infantino's plans to be re-elected FIFA President next year.
    • Spider-Man: Brand New Day   Highlight was a bloke reacting to the post-credit scene by going "Holy f**k it's Tobey Maguire!" despite the scene having no reference to him at all. Which made my close-to-full screening of the film laugh a lot.   Film was pretty good. It was interesting as much as an exploration of the ramifications of the end of No Way Home and being about isolationism and male loneliness, which I thought it actually did quite well. Though I do ponder if I liked it as much as the other 3 Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Sadie Sink was good tbf, while I also liked Jon Bernthal as Punisher, enough that I might go watch his Disney+ shows.   Seem to have had a Marvel kick recently having also watched Thunderbolts and Shang-Chi, both of which I thought were pretty good.
    • Wolf Alice won't get headliner for Reading either, they will sub if they play, that is where their level has stopped I feel. Both TFG and Skyvip for the big shows this year was just a stretch too far. Every headliner this year is bigger than them too I'd say.   Agree with Capaldi I don't think Yungblud will be at Reading. I would guess Bludfest 3 or Download.
