Well the, er, Prodigy headlined IOW and the Other stage in 09.

As I said, if i'm wrong i'm wrong.

But the festival market has changed a fair bit, there's not as many touring / likely bands as there once was.

True, but with so few first-time headliners available, why are so few people on this forum discussing the chances of any big name returning? Neil Young? Bruce Springsteen? Paul McCartney? David Bowie? Stevie Wonder? The Who? Blur? etc

True, but with so few first-time headliners available, why are so few people on this forum discussing the chances of any big name returning? Neil Young? Bruce Springsteen? Paul McCartney? David Bowie? Stevie Wonder? The Who? Blur? etc

because Glastonbury doesn't seem to do big legends returning, so all of the acts you mention will probably never be booked again - makes the one time they did headline seem all the more special

Yeah the Eavises have previously said they're "working through a big list of acts that have never headlined before" (alongside new headliners, one would assume) and also that there are "only 20-30 acts that can headline and most of them they've already had" so it's clear they see it as being scratched off a list and to move onto the next one. Obviously that begs the question why Muse and Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys keep returning but I suppose that's just because they're a big deal in contemporary music.

what ever happened to Eavis saying he booked one of the headliners in while watching Metallica and they shared the same management. Doesn't that mean AC/DC are looking likely?

That would only have been a verbal agreement, and one that ME would have quickly shown the finger when the band sent through their requirements. That's if it was even AC/DC who were 'booked' anyway, the manager side of stage in question also manages Muse and the Red Hot Chili Peppers who would both have been more sensible bookings for 2015.

any agent who is with Eavis at the Pyramid is probably someone high up whose company handles many different clients.

later in the piece there's a tweet from a BBC radio producer who said that Eavis watched Metallica with their manager Peter Mensch.

he says that Mensch manages AC/DC, which does not seem to be the case.

it could well be 2 different people in Eavis' vicinity...

FWIW: Peter Mensch runs QPrime with Cliff Burnstein. their acts include:

Metallica

Muse

RHCP

The Black Keys

Foals

Snow Patrol

and a few other relatively small acts.

they seemingly have nothing to do with AC/DC.

The fact i'm hearing so little is making me think that Elton John is possibly one of them, tho that's a bit of a punt really. But if it's not him I'm thinking that at least one of the other two is one of the acts that I seem to never hear much about - that upper tier of acts - which is why i'm getting so little.

pretty sure they offered to play the festival for free and Eavis still didn't want them so very unlikely. if the organisers wanted them to play it would've been at their peak a long time ago, not now as they barely hang on

that's a good point though, people were assuming Eavis was talking about a member of the band, whereas maybe he was talking about the agent, which definitely rules Mensch and his acts out, and could be anyone really...
