Getting in at either of the front ends / entrances can be a really tight squeeze but once you are in there is always space in the back quarter or so. In fact you'd have no problem finding space to set up a chair between bands.

Always assumed its part of the license. That many people in one place - thou shalt have a surge barrier.

Works fine - only seems to frustrate those trying to push their way to the front when they come to it.

2009 first year? or was it even earlier?

Worst idea ive ever seen was the year before download launched when they had the last british `ozzfest` at donington....basically the area at the front of the stage where all the action was taking place, moshpits etc was seperated by a single barrier but they had a fucking wristband system to get in! and when it filled up they were doing 1 in 1 out......they almost got stormed by angry fans when they found out they couldnt get anywhere near the stage during any of the major acts without a massive `wait` to get a wristband for this area haha
