Get pitched, relax, check out local amenities to suss out where near you to get that bacon sarnie and a cuppa in the morning, toilets, water points, fire buckets, any useful bits like is there a hairdresser or bakers (yes, entirely possible). Some of the smaller bars and a good portion of the market is open Wednesday so worth a look round. Last I hear at 6pm there will be a gathering of board members in the cabaret field for a social, gossip and maybe plotting a mooch (that's an amble off to do something) for later that evening (though do not put much stock in that, cat herding springs to mind).

Walk around, take photo's, get drunk, get excited, check out the official programme, guide and playlist, send postcards home (make sure to daub a bit of Glasto mud on them), get drunk, argue with friends about which bands to see and which to forego, get drunk, keep repeating over and over again 'oh my god, I can't believe it - we're only at bloody Glastonbury'!!

I love walking across the site chatting to people taking the whole thing in!! Everyone is on such a high! Last year I arrived on the Thursday everything got soaked! If it was not for the heat wave the rest of the festival I would have been screwed. Everything in my bag was wet my sleeping bag the lot! didn't really enjoy walking round much that day but found some crazy band playing and a bar... everything was ok, But I really don't think you can beat arriving at the festival the atmosphere is electric.

I took my newbie boyfriend last year, so as soon as the tent was up & we'd visited the lock ups, I told him to just walk where the mood took him & I would just follow keeping quiet (this doesn't happen often), so that he could explore it all for himself & get lost & bewildered & totally mind-blown!

It was great watching his face just beam brighter & brighter with every step he took!

Yes its great fun. There is a stall selling loads of postcards, then you can use the provided pens, crayons and rubber stamps to write your message home, buy a stamp and post it in their little postbox.

Stand, exhausted in a queue before trogging up and down muddy paths, swear while you put your tent up, have a drink then collapse due to lack of sleep.

Best day of the festival!

Last year was the first time I used the Wednesday to just get around the whole site and see it all with a first-timer. Same again this year. It'd be good if there was some music on somewhere, but we'll just prop ourselves up at many a bar and settle in for the week (or so!)! :)

the Wednesday and Thursday are in some ways my favourite days of the festival - free of plans / the fear of missing acts etc. just get to to whatever the fuck you want all day long. get drunk. explore. get to grips with the size of the place. sometimes i wake up on the Friday and think 'shit i've actually gotta get my arse in to gear today'

Last year we set up, put stuff in the lock ups and started drinking/smoking/chatting/talking about bands we wanted to see/catching up etc. Went to the stone circle thing I think but I barely remember getting there. Later in the night once I sobered up we walked around the late night areas I think, had a cup of tea, went to bed. Good day to relax, take everything in as everyone has said.
