Stone Circle

Flagtopia is more like how the Sturn Curcal used to be- minus the drums. A proper place to chill. It's not devoid of NOS whooshes but definitely much calmer. Nothing exciting about it- don't bring a group of mates and say 'it'll be really great!'... just wander there with special friends- or by yourself and relaaaaaaax ;)

As much as I love it, I think the introduction of The Park and the expansion of the site are partly responsible for the decline. The Stone Circle used to feel like the edge of the world, now it just feels ordinary in comparison. You can hear The Park, so it's less peaceful and there are higher places with better views.

I still like it though.

I remember some full scale nutter in the sturn curcal one night with a massive hospital sized NOS bottle on wheels giving it out to all and sundry :) I do still plenty like the Circle too.. it's just not the chillzone anymore.

I really liked the stone circle early on during the day. Especially on the Wednesday (not so much at busier times). Preferred sitting up on the hill behind park though or at Flagtopia. One of my favourite bits of the fest was just sitting there and taking it all in. Don't care for taken drugs so this is just a general observation of nice areas to chill.

Last couple of times I've been to the SC, it's been very underwhelming and not liked the vibe there at all though that's probably me growing older and having different ideas of what a 'good time' is. Far better places to chill out. Had a few good times sat up by the glastonbury sign up from Park or around Avalon.

Top of the hill as mentioned before is a nice place to chill. I'd also recommend a bit of comedy in the cabaret tent & looking around the circus field in the evening to see some really crazy or mind bending shows & acts.

It's been said so many times but here goes...Glastonbury is all about finding the moment. If you don't like what you're experiencing, move on. The Stone Circle could be great one night for you and shit the next. A lot of it depends on what you make of it too.

Don't go to the festival with any preconceptions just go with the flow and see where that takes you. That's the best way to have an amazing week. Don't be looking at your lanyard all the time, don't think you have a long checklist, you're not on a coach trip across Europe, you're at a festival that's constantly changing so go with it.

Every year I promise myself, "I will watch the sunrise from the Stone Circle" but I never do because I've found something else unexpected that's distracted me and I've have the best time. I've never regretted it..and anyway, there's always next year. That said, this year, I will watch the sunrise from the Stone Circle...while Daft Punk have an impromptu acoustic set in the middle of it. The best times at Glasto are when you walk away thinking, "Did that really just happen?!"

Still make a point of revisiting the place, but yeah its changed of course - I would say starved a bit at night now due to the attraction of the SE nightlife, but also cos fewer performers seem to go up there these days. Tbh its almost better in the day now sometimes, especially when its sunny and dry up there and you can chill for a bit between bands with a few tins. Miss the circus it used to be in the '90's though.

I still enjoy visiting the stone circles but would agree with you about it being better during the day, especially on a warm sunny day, with the view its absolute magic up there for finding a bit of space and watching the world go by.

I'd agree although having said that I got some of the best dried mushrooms I've ever had from an amazing welsh lady up at the stone circle in 2004, haha proper swirling vortex of clouds stuff!

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
