Everyone seems to have forgotten this article from December: http://www.sheptonmalletjournal.co.uk/Glastonbury-Festival-cater-World-Cup-watchers/story-20344181-detail/story.html

I'm a massive football fan in general and would have missed almost any act to see the game, regardless of whether we had a chance of winning or not.

Having said that, I understand the reasons for them not showing it, and have absolutely no complaints about it. It's not the end of the world; I'll still try and catch it if it's on somewhere but won't shed any tears over missing it.

It just seems a bit odd that they had been sending mixed messages out about it, saying that they "will cater for" football fans, then changing their minds 5 months later.

good times, I have to say I enjoyed 2010 watching the world cup on the pyramid stage at my first glastonbury was just an incredible start but I wouldn't miss an act for is (unless it was the WC Final)

I'm glad at least we don't lose a camping field for a screen that we will be used for 90 mins

A mate of mine who went to Glasto 1998 and said that James were on the Pyramid straight after the England/Colombia game in World Cup '98 which was being shown on the Pyramid? Not sure if he's getting mixed up or not though, was a good few years ago.

Have just had to break the news to my other half that if England gets through he will miss the second round game while we are at Glasto, and then the quarter final if we get that far, because we are at a wedding.

Let's hope for my sake that they don't make it past the group stage, or I'm in for a lot of moaning!!

They often always say they won't show the football and then they actually do....

Although I think on this occasion if it's 9pm it's to awkward a time to show the match. Although I would expect they would show a little bit during band changes and then flick it off when the headliner comes on stage. Makes sense!

I think they have a duty to their headliners to not be putting something on that could potentially pull a lot of people away from the main stages.

That said, there'd be nothing to stop some enterprising smaller setups putting it on a TV or projector. Is there an appropriate Sky package that puts a little white spliff in the corner of the screen to show that it's licensed for festival viewing? ;)

unless i've missed something nowhere does it clarify whether or not the Tuesday match will be shown in the car parks, is it just being assumed that people will assume that isn't the case...?

There's a Kasabian/football fan stereotype/LAD/Sunday night joke to be made somewhere amongst all this.

If it clashed with Metallica I probably wouldn't watch the football but would miss virtually any other band already announced. I know you go to Glastonbury for the music and that but it is the World Cup...

It'll still be on in some bars right? Probably all academic since we won't get out of the group anyway!

partly... although the fact over a third of the entire population watched england's knockout match in 2012 suggests those suggesting there'd be no audience for it are a little ignorant
