You don't need guy ropes unless it's fairly windy, otherwise they don't do much, at least most of them anyway. Maybe the porch ones if it rains which it won't, well maybe a little.

It does get very busy very quickly! I like it though, I like the busy-ness of it. It is good if you want somewhere lively, there's always someone up. It is shit, however, if you want a good nights sleep! If you end up in Pennards, I recommend attempting going to sleep either at midnight, before people have come back from headliners, and hoping to sleep right through them arriving back, or wait until 5am and try then!

I've always found people to be very nice and friendly though, and I can assure you I'm not a hooligan! ;)

Depends on the context. Not in Pennards, gets full too quickly, stopping other people camping there.

Having said that, we did it last year for some friends arriving on the Thursday, but knowing we would need to do that, camped out in a quiet corner of Bushy - the tape (and the note on it) was basically saying "can you not camp this side of us, but on the other side of us, or behind us instead". At no point was the campsite full, so people weren't denied anything.

Personally I have no problem with this, as long as it's a reasonable space, for a short period of time. For example, sealing off 10 square metres until Thursday midday is not on, but space for a tent until something like mid-afternoon on Wednesday seems reasonable. I think it's important that people get the opportunity to share the festival together and that's not always possible for various genuine reasons.

But I prefer to give my friends my tent which they put up for me if I can't make it at the same time.

Holding off enough space for a tent or two to go up for an hour or so while a few friends catch up, by all means. Claim a huge space for half the day? Do one.

Alternatively, set their tents up for them. Or if there is just one or two people of a larger group that need to find you, strategically place your tents so there isn't room for anymore unless you move yours slightly to free up space when said friends turn up.

Don't want to appear unsympathetic to the OP, but it looks as though they bought coach tickets presumably to give them a better chance of getting tickets. And if that was not the reason why didn't they think about taking their chances in the main sale so they could all arrive at the same time. As such you can't really expect to have your cake and eat it, by giving yourselves an advantage to get a ticket and also have the pick of the site.

And anyway I can't see all of the fuss about camping together, when surely all the tent should be there for is for having a kip, which really doesn't have to be near your mates when your asleep. Unless of course you intend to spend a considerable amount of time sitting in a group near your tent, which to me seems a big waste of valuable festival time I could be enjoying elsewhere. Instead of camping together and if you want a natter and a bit of a bonding session arrange to meet up at one of the hundreds of amazing places around the festival. The stone circle, up the hill near the flags, one of the bars, the cider bus, and loads of other places are all much better than in a Feild of tents, which by comparison is a bit of shit place to be when there are so many other places you could be.

Wouldnt worry about it. Just get on and whack your tents up and enjoy the festival rather than organising your own one.

If you do go and buy some tape - it's making a very deliberate and conscious effort to sort yourself out and exclude everyone else - which doesn't send a very positive message and you'll probably end up annoying some people and feeling a bit of a cock about it. But I'm not going to try and stop anyone from camping with their mates if that's really important to them.

It would be so much better if everyone didn't feel the need to arrive 2 days before the festival starts in order to sprint in to get "their" spot and just came along with an open attitude to just camping wherever they can and getting involved with other people than those in their own group.

I'm camping with two people I've never been to Glastonbury with before (we've all been separately for a few years though ). I'm pretty sure one of them suggested Pennards, and the other suggested Park Home. I refused to camp in either, and manage to convince them to try Bushy Ground instead.

Honestly guys, the quieter camping spots are luxury in comparison. I walk past Park Home etc and the tents are practically pitched on top of each other, the smell from the over used toilets is disgusting and I can't say much for the atmosphere but I would confidently guess it's about the same as any other field.

Now.. a quieter field? You've got lots of space! We had a campfire most nights with our neighbours, there was about 10-15 of us each night, comfortably sat around one, maybe two, fires. There was very little noise, especially as we weren't near anything that had lots of people walking towards it, which meant a good nights sleep. And the best bit? Compost toilets! Such a winner, the smell was basically non existent and because we were out of the way, the queues were only people who were camping in that field, not passers by.

Being in the centre of it, where it's all happening, isn't necessarily a good thing. Glastonbury is a chance to relax as well, and although it might take an extra 5-10 minutes of walking, it's really worth it for the peaceful, friendly and positive atmosphere in the quieter fields.

I have camped in Oxylers and it was okay but the toilets kind of ruined it and it got very very cramped.
