Yeah but the difference between this thread and yours is that here we're looking at the data as it becomes available and over there you're putting your heads in the sand in the pretence of belief.

As a scientist, weather really is the single most non-empirical science. It IS a science, just an inaccurate one. And one that has been ridiculed as such.

And science is anti-absolutist...isn't it? We have moved on from Newton, even though his gravitational theory 'works'.

No, the difference is that you all take yourselves incredibly seriously despite not actually having anything to say while we're just having a bit of fun.

Would you be able to highlight the 'snide' and 'nasty' comments please...and i will personally have a word.

Seriously.

Page 1 onwards mate.

Seriously.

Appending 'seriously.' to a post doesn't make it like you read the thread.

Woffy admits to being a scientist.

Win!

To be fair, meteorology is one of the day to day most useful sciences there is, even if it can't predict rainfall to within a square inch or by the minute. The brave hero scientists who man our weather stations around the globe have saved millions of lives. By belittling it, you belittle their brilliant work and sacrifices.

the UK is a difficult country to predict weather for due to the fact it is on the edge of a big fuck off ocean and oceanic weather systems are far more unstable and unpredictable, even for the most powerful computer simulators.

Predicting the weather for a landlocked country in the middle of a continent is a piece of cake, for a long time in advance

basically the festival needs to relocate to hungary

I've not said that. I said uninformed. If I chimed in about heart surgery and someone said "you don't know what you're talking about" I'd said 'fair play' - not get moody

Yes. I've got the arse. Because it's nice to have the occasional thread not completely spammed to hell with nonsense

Or are you setting the rules now and every thread is to be full of crap?

Sometimes I do wonder - are you all the types of 'anarchist' who'd keep coming into a quiet theatre performance and screaming and banging drugs - then laugh and say it's a free world?

It IS a free world, so let others have some and don't force the chaos you want into everywhere - i'm not coming forcing any sense and order into the NFRNFC thread

respect for each people. it's not hard.

Frosty,

Really?

Seriously?!

This is a thread. On a website. On the internet.

It's as much as a fucking free for all as you can find...for our generation.

We're that lucky.

So there's this site...different threads about different stuff relating to one festival we all love.

But we love and post about the same festival.

And there's 2 threads about the weather at the festival we all love.

And there's some irreverent silliness on one thread from someone who prefers the irreverent silliness of the other thread?!

(Can i offer my campervan ticket to someone who looks like my sister's boyfriend's mate's uncle...PLEEEEEASE?)

Oki doke.

I'll never post again here now.

Please can someone let me know when i'm allowed to tease the people who have the right to own the rules to this forum so i can enjoy being irreverent with my friends again.

Thanks.

*clasps sides before laughter splits them in two*

It's not humour, it's belittling and massively distracting when we're trying to have a thread about weather with some science and sense in it, not just one with people coming in every two hours "NFRNFC!NFRNFC! Ah you can't predict tomorrow's weather, supercomputers! Hah!" - repeat as necessary for 21 pages

or you guys can go do that stuff in your thread, we can do our stuff in our thread and maybe we can visit each other once a week not all the time until all discussion is lost under spam.

Hear hear!

Whilst I post in the NFR NFC thread (as I am too praying for sun), the 'science' weather thread is one of my favourite Glastonbury rituals. I love the geek-out over the data and the updated forecasts and discussions. I love the first 'on the ground' evidence from Big Dog.

The occasional 'cross thread' posts from both sides is harmless 'science v religion' humour. The persistent posting does get rather tiring and disrupts the flow of conversation on the thread.

Hmm just watched Countryfile weather report..... This week it's going to be a changeable week and Thursday is the best day....

Also mention May is the 6th month in a row with above average temps and this was the 3rd warmest spring on record..... :/

That can't be true! I thought it had been a chilly spring- I've been in my thermals for most of it!

How can you sound worried about that? Is all gravy

It has been a lovely spring since the big wet stopped. Plenty of tan already

There's no guaranteed heatwave yet but this is all a long way from how things looked in 07 and if we're honest that's the big scary monster we're scared of no matter the science behind it

That's the bogie monster all right. I like to be able to sit down, but I fucking hate being rained on for 4 days.

Actually, I take it all back. I've just read so of this exchange. There are people from both sides who banter and there are some sad sods who get upset.

Does anyone on the NFR NFC thread moan about the ones who pay post on there? No.

Oh I'm not worried, I just take things with a pinch of salt!

Yes 07 was horrible I didn't go but friends did and some had enough by the Sat afternoon and went home....

maybe they're just messing around all the time, not trying to have a more sane discussion

Can different threads not have different levels of nonsense? I don't think see what's so unreasonable about that - why should a few loud people decide the tone of the whole forum?

Anyone reading this as a rivalry between a group of scientists versus pagans, or between comics versus kill-joys has read it all wrong. The elephant in the room here is that a remarkably well-defined clique has emerged, with group-norms, punishments and rewards - i.e. all the stuff that scientists like Philip Zimbardo have demonstrated with beautifully crafted experiments. The inevitable result is friction between those who define themselves as 'in' the group and the outsiders. Nothing unusual with this - it's a given on any chat-room or forum.

The exciting difference here is that in a few weeks, the members of this clique are going to spend a week together in the real world. Sweet mother of God - If I were Mike Leigh, I'd be camped next to them with notebook at the ready: the car-crash potential is enormous.

They/we are. What's the problem with that.

What is odd is that some people can cross thread and others get all wound up. You obviously get wound up.

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
