Anyone reading this as a rivalry between a group of scientists versus pagans, or between comics versus kill-joys has read it all wrong. The elephant in the room here is that a remarkably well-defined clique has emerged, with group-norms, punishments and rewards - i.e. all the stuff that scientists like Philip Zimbardo have demonstrated with beautifully crafted experiments. The inevitable result is friction between those who define themselves as 'in' the group and the outsiders. Nothing unusual with this - it's a given on any chat-room or forum.

The exciting difference here is that in a few weeks, the members of this clique are going to spend a week together in the real world. Sweet mother of God - If I were Mike Leigh, I'd be camped next to them with notebook at the ready: the car-crash potential is enormous.

Do you mean Camp Ralph? I'm not sure the overlap with NFR NFC is as great as it seems. Ironically, I think that Glastonbury weekend is the time when the NFR NFC posters will be socialising with each other the *least*.

Whilst I post in the NFR NFC thread (as I am too praying for sun), the 'science' weather thread is one of my favourite Glastonbury rituals. I love the geek-out over the data and the updated forecasts and discussions. I love the first 'on the ground' evidence from Big Dog.

The occasional 'cross thread' posts from both sides is harmless 'science v religion' humour. The persistent posting does get rather tiring and disrupts the flow of conversation on the thread.

In all seriousness, i've just been trawling the 'net for every weather site i can find, as some of the foreign long range forecasts are pretty accurate, relatively speaking. A Chilean site, and they're no dummies when it comes to locally-geographically-split forecasts due to the predominant Andes influence cutting the 'standard-earth' gravitationally affected east-to-west wind/pressure systems in half, if not blatantly disrupting them altogether (due to the planet's rotation) into an almost 'push-driven' south to north weather system...much akin to Japan - an island weather system split longitudinally through the island(s) [sun on one 'side', snow on the other...but obviously influenced across the 'sound' of mainland Asia])...and they reckon it's fucking pot luck what it's gonna be like unless we pay penance to the Weather Gods. NFR NFC. xxx

Pressure trying to rise

Low pressure will be the dominant force through the middle of the month and so the weather remains changeable.

There'll be a mix of showers or longer spells of rain and some drier, brighter or sunnier periods. Later in the month we may well see a welcome change. High pressure will be trying to exert its influence, so things may well settle down and we could get some much more settled conditions developing.

Temperatures are likely to rise from near or below normal in the unsettled conditions to about average or warm during the more settled weather.

Wimbledon starts in the last week of June - could it be a few days of sunshine and warmth to start the tournament?

Reading that has made me feel like I'm reading a horoscope. Hopefully they're not making up the bit about the end of the month but it does sound like they're trying to cover all bases.

Its really all down to timing - the weather will likely be unsettled, however if the weather fronts are slower moving, or move further North to make landfall, then there is a chance of a Glasto-sized break in between that due to normally predominant High Pressure centred over the Azores could lead to clear sunny weather.... The only thing that can add risk in that event is the chance of local convectional thunderstorms developing over the SW (like 2005), or over the Channel / SW France and drifting North, which can happen at that time of year and in stable, humid weather.
