Agree with the above.

Really annoys me when bands take years to release their debut album, but release lots of solid, great singles and EP's beforehand. It almost always leaves you disappointed when the album is released, as you've heard them previously befor, but sounding more raw and edgy. I hate the way albums are polished these days.

I'd hate to imagine what would have happened to Arctic Monkeys if they were breaking through nowadays. Back in late '05 / early '06 they released IBTYLGOTD and then a few months later we had WPSIATWIM.

I meant more the fact that you've heard the band before sounding more raw .. Not necessarily the songs they release on the album.

Don't get me wrong, I like the album of the few listens I've had, but when they burst onto the scene I was just expecting a lot more.

Sounds a bit to me as if the label had a listen to the demos and advised them to go back to the studio, tone down the shoegazy/post-rocky tremolo-picked guitar stuff and take things in a more radio-friendly pop direction. The result, to my ears, isn't great.

If the album has been over polished in the studio at least live they should still be as fab as last year.

They're much heavier live, the album is a lot softer than they usually play

I agree with a lot that has been said here. I'm really liking the album but the production just leaves me thinking most of the songs could sound so much better if they had made them in a more similar style to their EPs or live shows.

I'm a bit disappointed with the album as well.  I didn't even make it all the way through before I got bored and turned it off.  I will give it another go though

Aye, I quite like it. They annoyingly clash with SOAK at Glasto though. And PSB at The Strokes on Thursday!

I really like My Love Is Cool. It's not what I expected at all from listening to their earlier stuff, and after the first time I listened to it I was a bit underwhelmed. However, I've been through it 4-5 times now and it's really grown on me.

Yeah feels a bit premature to write it off based on an iTunes album stream.  Sounds very different to a lot of what they've released so far but I'm looking forward to getting a copy and letting it grow on me. 

 

To not see them live would be a mistake in any case.

IMO the album seems to be aimed at teenagers. Just my opinion.

Same here! It's a bit more poppy/polished than their EP's but it's still awesome. One of the best of the year so far for me

another great recommendation I got from off this forum!  

I really like them, have not heard the album yet but I love all of the tracks on spotify, 4 of which are on the album anyway ("Bros", "Moaning Lisa Smile", "Giant Peach" and "You're a Germ")

 

The clash with Motorhead is one of the worst clashes for me, I am going to have to choose Motorhead on the fact that I will never get to see them again, so i am hoping that the William Greens slot goes ahead and I can get in the tent.
