Put me in the 'I'll be there' camp. Really looking forward to it, actually. I think they'll smash it and I'm by no means a Metallica or even a metal fan.

You'd like to think that the band have got something up their sleeves to make the set more Glasto friendly, introduction of an orchestra for all/some songs like they did for 'S and M', a few cover songs here and there, playing their less heavy songs. After all, Lars et al are no mugs.

What do people reckon to the typical Metallica pyro? Will they be allowed it? I can't say I remember ever seeing flames at the Pyramid stage bar the fiery bird at the Stones.

Kasabian haven't headlined at wembley have they? I know they supportes oasis in 09 but didnt think theyve done their own show.

And im not sure what point youre making about metallica? That every single one of their fans went to see them at wembley? And I don't think a lot of metallica fans are particularly drawn to R&L these days.

This is the same position I'm in. I cannot wait to be honest. Don't like metal, but I understand that they will be technically impressive and I think they'll blow a few people, hopefully myself, away! They'll 100% surprise people for the better.

I remember hearing an extract from a lucrative gig they did in the US a while back, called Metallica with Strings, which was made into an album (I may have some of this info wrong but I'm on the right lines). Some of that stuff is tremendous, been meaning to buy the album for a while. Hopefully there's an orchestra with them on the night!

The album is S&M (Symphony and Metallica).

On a related note, I don't consider myself much of a metal fan but I am certainly a Metallica fan - and it stems from seeing them live. I knew perhaps 2/3 songs before seeing them at Wembley in 2007 and I was sold from that point on.

Incredibly, I wasn't 100% sold when I seen the Manics the first time. But I wanted to do a gig and went and seen them.

Never done it since then though, and that was 12 years ago in December. Still though... I can understand it.

I expect they will be well received this outing, uninspiring though it may be as a headliner choice.

Aye, Kasabian are a pretty good live act. Enjoyed them at T in 2012.

The argument should be why are kasabian headlining. Metallica are what I would call and expect a headliner to be. Its a safe solid good call by eavis.

No, they aren't and by saying they are, it completely devalues the booking. Make no mistake, if you take away the context of the bookings, they're fairly shit headliners. Metallica are a risk for Glastonbury and Glastonbury is a risk for Metallica, and that's what makes the booking admirable and special.

Any other year, any other festival, A.F, Metallica and Kasabian is a very run of the mill, ordinary set of headliners.

On paper it's very 'Reading Festival'-esque set of headliners. Without the context of 'Metal At Glastonbury' it's nothing to flip yer lid over.

And played many higher up slots at festivals in this country for several years, and played headlining shows at the biggest venues and are doing an arena tour just before the festival etc. etc.

You put in the context its their first headlining performance at Glastonbury, a festival they mostly share an ideology with and have expressed an admiration for, it changes the situation.

It's not the most appealing set of headliners and that's coming from a big Kasabian fan but it was always gonna be hard to follow The Rolling Stones and Arctic Monkeys last year. 2011 was also pretty impressive in terms of the size of the acts

That said, they've done their best. Given that their original plan probably looked like AF - Prince - Fleetwood Mac it's not like they're not trying to conjure up a line-up that will satisfy most.
