Metallica 2014

you are one person, and in this case i would argue the exception. if there was some way to conduct a study on the general cross-genre movement, id bet my life on you moving into heavy traffic. Pop music would be the ultimate example for this, but i still maintain it is applicable to heavy rock <> alternative rock.

I'm not really sure what you mean but I've became a big fan of kesha, foxes and other electropop/pop like that recently and ive got into big room mainstream house like martin garrix as well. 2 years ago I wouldn't be seen dead going near any of that shit. I think thst proves your point I dunno

do you think?

in my experience most people grow out of it.

In my experience they go back to it as they get older.

I'm nearly 50 - loved late 70's / early 80's (pre Metallica) metal in my teens but went through 80's indie > stadium pop/rock (U2/REM) ->90's grunge > Britpop > Prodigy type bands > the noughties indie revival and am now fully back to loving (some) metal.

Although I missed them at the time I love Metallica and can't wait to see them BUT think they will need to target the Glasto audience by playing the classics and some of the covers that they've played over the years.

In four years of glasto this is the band I'm looking forward to the most but am worried that they could mess it up.

But they're shit!

Haha arguably. I've enjoyed them live in the past but I am a little bored of them.

Kasabian haven't headlined at wembley have they? I know they supportes oasis in 09 but didnt think theyve done their own show.

And im not sure what point youre making about metallica? That every single one of their fans went to see them at wembley? And I don't think a lot of metallica fans are particularly drawn to R&L these days.

I'll set out my stall - I couldn't care either way whether they headline or not. The point I'm making is that you can't simply say that because they can play a stadium means that they are a good choice as headliner for glasto as they appeal to a specific fan base. Yes, they are HUGE in a fanbase that like that kind of thing but I don't believe the majority of glasto-goers will be fussed/impressed, therefore selling out a 90,000 seater stadium doesn't mean they will fill the pyramid field (70,000 capacity IIRC?)

this. But I have no doubt Metallica will do that. The only comparable gigs I can think of are the short Live Earth gig at Wembley (Enter Sandman/Nothing Else Matters/Sad But True) and their opening sets for the Stones in 2005. For those two gigs they played hit-heavy sets:

Arcade Fire are a run of the mill headliner? They have headlined one festival.

Wha'?!?! :scratchhead: Arcade Fire have headlined loads of festivals around the world, including Reading/Leeds and their own headline show in Hyde Park.

Think what you like, but I don't want mosh pits and piss throwing at Glastonbury. Reading can keep it.

If you enjoy that sort of thing, good luck to you.

You think that people who have brought tickets to Glastonbury are going to start throwing piss because Metallica are playing? Really? Do you also think that metal is made by the devil?

As for mosh pits, the biggest one I saw at Glastonbury was at Pendulum. A Dance band

If we were gonna have a metal band headline i'd prefer Iron Maiden. They're british for a start, always good to see a British band headline :) I also feel for your average glasto go-er Maiden are more accessible and easier on the ears.

I've seen both bands and in my humble opinion Maiden piss all over Metallica as a live act.

However I'm all for diversity at glasto, the range of bands on offer is the best thing about glasto for me! I think they'll do a professional job, win over a few doubters and they may pave the way for Foo's, PJ, QOTSA and similar bands to headline in the future :)

Pendulum are very much (and self confessed) metal influenced

Must be the devil then

Edit: I'm sure these same sort of conversations about 'the wrong sort of atmosphere' happened when Jay-Z headlined, and those accusations turned out to be as utterly ridiculous as these will now

Enter Sandman is gonna be the anthem for them. One possibly as a fair few non-Metallica fans came across it because of the video's use of some an old war movie in the video, making it infamous in it's way. Even got them a grammy nomination.

The above setlist looks very black album heavy, reckon through the never and tread could be dropped for two of ride, creeping death, fuel or memory remains.

Either way its a fairly accessible set and should go down a storm
