Metallica 2014

Well, I'd say that Soni have just about confirmed that Metallica are playing Glasto. :D

All that remains is whether they'll be headlining.

Those words make me very happy. Could never have dreamed of Metallica playing Glasto.

QOTSA look to be headlining R&L, which would make this unlikely.

aren't they co headlining? Could be a similar thing when Pulp co headlined and still played. "Northern exclusive" or some other bullshit.

Id absolutely love qotsa back.

If the claims of exclusivity haven't been mentioned since the original announcement, why has this press release suddenly made them more likely?

because this press release specifically mentioned other bands as exclusives whilst leaving Metallica out, giving a massive hint that they'd been booked elsewhere

But at the same time it doesnt say Iron Maiden are exclusives either?

Unless they have been booked for somewhere else aswell?

Can't see QOTSA playing. Their EU dates finish two weeks before Glasto so they'll probably be back in the US (or on a break) by the time of the fest.

They're then obviously coming back over later in the summer so seems pretty clear they'll play R&L.

But it didn't mention Iron Maiden as exclusive either, which they are...

perhaps that's Soni's way of not drawing attention to Metallica not being, maybe?

There's all sorts of possibilities, but about the most unlikely one in my eyes is Soni not exploiting every angle they can to help sell tickets given the festival's troubled recent years.

No.

They'd want more crowd churn than that.

You would think so, just can't see them playing anywhere else if they do appear. Unless they went up against them?

To be honest I think whether QOTSA even play will come down to them being announced at other European festivals in the week between the Danish one they're doing and Glastonbury. There's a few which haven't announced headliners yet so it's a possibility.

EDIT: Unless the Eavii will try and avoid having Metallica headline for that very reason? We'll see I guess.

Yes I'm sure it'll be packed out dear

It'll be like Jay-Z all over again. Great intro, utterly shite gig.

Though at least Jay-Z's intro was original.

…Jay Z's intro was Wonderwall by Oasis. how is that original?

Metallica will tear the place a new arsehole if they headline Pyramid. personally i'd rather they headline Other as it'd feel that little bit more 'special', but just having them at Glastonbury full stop is pretty amazing. if you don't see that, then more fool you

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
    • That's fair on WA - I did recall people thinking Fontaines would take this year off before this was announced.    On the subject of Wolf Alice, they did Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday then Kendal Calling last night. Bit of an odd choice, no? Half imagine at Kendal that they would've been just exhausted.
    • Just logged onto the app to start planning my days and there really are a LOT of stages missing. Apart from the Seaside Stage there is no Casemates this year etc. Apart from the Seaside Stage, there are no Casemates this year, etc. Can't see anything about the kids field really. And there's local acts that are normally there like Kojak's Revenge that aren't appearing either.  Normally we get down fairly early but I can't see anything before 3pm I'm keen to see. Only one real clash as well, which is good, but it's thin and it's not thin in the sense of "I've seen a lot of these acts before"
