I don't understand how people are saying they would fail. They have been around for 30 years have a great back catalog of great songs and know how to perform. I think the biggest plus for them putting on a great show is that they actually want to play the festival as Lars has said in interviews so I think they do "get it"

Plus having songs like "Nothing else matters" and "One" it isn't just a Heavy Metal gig. They would be truely epic songs to hear live. Me personally I hope they do play and would be there no matter where it was on the site.

I'm sure they'll be lots of fireworks and confetti to make up for the fact that people may not completely engage people with their music. Usually seems to work.

People around me couldn't even handle Nick Cave because his songs were a bit different and that seemed quite a lot of people , so I can't see them sticking around for two hours of thrash metal

Is he really? I'm not disputing it by the way. Just genuinely surprised. I'm a big fan, but would still consider him fairly niche. Where else so? Acoustic or John Peel... I suppose Acoustic could suit him? Or lower on a bigger stage I guess, although I'm not sure how well that would suit him...

No. A lot of people plonk themselves down at the Pyramid Stage and stay there for the day.

I'd really worry about them on the Pyramid. 2 hours of relentless metal. They are very loud and very heavy for a lot of peoples tastes.

If they do headline the pyramid I could see them getting a few special guests involved...Jimmy Page or someone like that to appease the regulars. Extra fireworks/pyro too perhaps, but beyond that I don't see what else they can do. I suppose it all comes down to how well the crowd are willing to engage something different & who the alternatives are on the other stages. I'll reserve my judgment until after the performance, because unlike Russy I don't profess to have a crystal ball.

Don't know how representative of the masses I am but I would usually have a passing interest in most headliners, for a couple of songs maybe, just to see if they are as dull live as I believe them to be (hello Coldplay, KOL, Kasabian, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Paul McCartney, Oasis, Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, Muse, The Killers, The Who). I have zero interest in Metallica.

Let's not beat about the bush; It's grunt pig music, isn't it? Grunting, sweaty music played by grunting sweaty grunt pigs. Usually played to an audience of grunting sweaty fans with elastic bands in their beards, doing that silly thing with their hands whilst waggling their tongue around.

Either a large percentage of the Pyramid field really *are* tied to their chairs all day and will hate it, a large percentage of the Pyramid field secretly like guitar twiddling and they'll go down a storm or they'll end up with a pretty small crowd by the encore.

Putting aside that fact that I am a fan, I really hope this happens just because it's such an interesting booking. I'm already surprised by the number of people on this board who seem to be up for it. I would have expected a much bigger negative response.

I wouldn't expect it to be a huge crowd by any stretch of the imagination but I'm already thinking they will get a bigger attendance than I'd thought when the idea of them playing was first mooted.

If they do play, I think they'll throw in a few covers, Whiskey etc. and Gonzo's suggestion of a Brian May reunion for a belting Stone Cold Crazy isn't as nuts as it sounds.
