I'm 20 and my mum loves the eagles and used to play them in the car continuously however I can only name one song as I thought the rest were all were awful. I don't think anyone else I know my age who would be able to name more than hotel California however if there were only two stages and one had the eagles and the other had one direction I think about 80% would see one direction whether it was for a laugh or genuine. But if there were several stages I think only about 20% would see one direction and they would all be girls. The eagles to me is awful as a headliner choice.

This 1D Eagles comparison is a bit ridiculous, clearly people from 18-30 who might be interested in The Eagles would never be interested in 1D. Fairer I think would be Arcade Fire or Arctic Monkeys and The Eagles and I'd put a hefty amount of money that about 95% of people in that age bracket would rather see either AF or AM. If true it's certainly a less exciting booking for young people than the stones or Stevie was, but then I imagine many people would argue that they've catered too much for younger audiences in recent years. This post included a lot of abbreviations.

To provide a different perspective ...

I go as a large group of 30 or so 20-30 year olds. Just to set the credentials we have been going to Glasto for years (many for more than my previous 3 Glastonburys). I would hazard a guess and say that 3/4, if not more, of my group would go One Direction. We have some actual genuine fans in the group (a couple even paid to see them live...).

I love pop music as a rule, but think One Direction they are pretty dross personally. However, I would probably still pick them over The Eagles. I mean really, The Eagles? I am very ignorant to their music but I think this is a sign that they just aren't current. I paid quite to lot to see Fleetwood Mac on their last tour though, for those doing a Mac Eagles comparison. Mac have remained in the public eye.

I imagine 20 of the 30 of us would be at another stage. I imagine the vast majority of people in my Glastonbury demographic would pick alternative to those two. But imagine one night at Glastonbury, the only 20-30 age people allowed in... one band headling The Other, one headlining Pyrami, both at the same time, with everything else on site shut, I think you'd find the One Direction stage much busier.

I really hope this rumour to be true. Nice bit of cleansing for the proportion that only book for the headliners, and will cancel the deposits once found out. More for the resale for my Mum who always goes but didnt get a ticket this year, and also the die-hards on here that didnt get tickets. THIS IS GOOD NEWS!

I'm 33 and I really know nothing about the eagles apart from hotel California. All my group are a similar age and we all have the same knowledge of then,

When you think of other bands like the kinks, the who, Rolling Stones, beach boys who in could name a vast amount of songs for. It just shows how little long lasting impact the eagles have had,

Their music has not crossed into this generation like a lot of the other bands I mentioned. I just don't see then as the main headliner for a festival.

Maybe Eavis has earned the right to be self indulgent and book his favourite band, I just think if it's announced then we will have a lot of disappointed ticket holders thinking the same thing a lot of us are.

Mac have remained in the public eye.

PMSL.

They really, REALLY haven't. Interest in them has ramped up massively in the last 5-ish years.

Somewhere between 5 and ten years ago (I'd guess around 7), I had a convo with Michael Eavis said to me "no one is interested in seeing Fleetwood Mac", and while it's an exaggeration, he defo wasn't wrong for that time.

The Kinks- BRITISH

The Who- British

Rolling Stones- British

Beatles- British

Fleetwood Mac- (mostly) British

-----

Beach Boys- one of the few American bands that had (as you call it) a long lasting impact on the UK,

Just saying that a band doesn't have a long lasting impact, because you and your friends don't think they have is narrow minded, as the impact differs from country to country.

Seems that you found a very "convincing" solution in writing 2 sentences and solving the problem about which music-scientists are writing massive books- Congratulations!

[No- I'm not a big Eagles-Fan, just getting sick of this "My personal guess is the only true knowledge of music"-attitude]

Only one way to do this, and that's to jump in with both feet.

Cheesecloth bandana, denim waistcoat, aviators, grow a droopy moustache, scoop a tankload of rum and TAPS AFF:

"Well, I'm running down the road tryin' to loosen my load I've got seven women on my mind."

Either that or go and see someone actually good at West Holts.

    • Robbie Williams would fit with the current state of the legend’s slot, and he’d bring the house down.
