I disagree there, quite a few of my friends went to see the Mac last year when they played the O2 (I'm 26), so I don't think you can put Fleetwood Mac in the same category.

Agree with Neil Young though, but the difference there is that he wasn't the "big" headliner that year, Springsteen was. If they put Eagles "top of the bill" as the big headliner, it would be a bit of an odd choice given Michael Eavis has said he wants to target a younger crowd...

i agree that The Eagles being the 'main attraction' does put a dampener on it, but at the end of the day, it sounds like Eavis has had some trouble locking down the acts he wanted (the big three), and being such a big fan of The Eagles he wasn't just gonna not book them as it'll be his only chance to do so

He does have Arcade Fire and Kasabian headlining. Two 'young' bands, the latter especially is almost solely for a younger crowd. I don't know if he could get a band that is aimed at a young audience and still be the 'top' act at the festival. I mean, the other headliners would have to be pretty weak...

edit: for the record, I agree having The Eagles as the 'top of the bill' headliner is depressing. But you can't argue with their size. I'm sure they will draw a large crowd - no one know the breakdown of ticket buyers. Might be a large proportion of over 40's with tickets this year...

Meh, I've only seen one pyramid headliner every year I've gone so I'm good with Arcade Fire!

Hopefully (and without trying to sound like a music snob) this will work out best in the long run...those who come just to tick a box etc. Will likely choose not to come and head elsewhere and it could lead to an all round better crowd (I've noticed it's changes massively in the short number of years I've been going)

For anyone who was there, what was the general atmosphere like in 2008?

The best set I saw last year was The Beat on the Left Field stage whilst the Stones were playing...Hopefully they will be on at the same time

Thats the best thing about Glastonbury you will always find something you want to watch!

That's a point, I wonder if they consider the demographics of those who have bought tickets when deciding on the lineup... As obviously they do have that information from the registration.

It was great, but the only Pyramid headliner I went to see was Blur. As everyone has said, there's so much other stuff if you don't like who's on the Pyramid! But I do love there to be that "moment" in the festival where EVERYONE gathers in front of the Pyramid for that one amazing headliner, a la Stevie Wonder/The Rolling Stones. It just gives that day of the festival such a buzz!

Haha love how vague everyone's memories are

It's a good set of headliners, they'll do just fine with that. Pleased it's not too pop - the Beyonce, Kanye and Gaga rumours were scary. Better staying that little bit alternative, let V be the pop bitch

Kanye would've been a much better headliner (both for me, and, probably for most other people as well) but as i said, The Eagles are Eavis' favourite band, and it's no secret that he's tried to get them before, so if they've finally given in and reduced their price / he's managed to get them somehow, he wasn't gonna turn them down

Seems a little self-indulgent of Eavis to book them on the strength of them being his favourite band. Still, it's his festival I guess and I wonder how many more there'll be with him at the helm? Maybe a gift to himself isn't too much to ask for years of sacrifice and dedication.

That said, if true I'll be somewhere else, for sure.
