Dolly Confirmed?

There I was in 2007 at Glastonbury on Sunday evening. I looked around me and I thought it must have been what the Somme looked like in terms of mud and mud encrusted people. I hadn't eaten since the Wednesday and felt very, very peculiar. A girl was walking around naked in the mud, completely out of it on something I assumed. I thought to myself 'there's broken glass in that mud and she'll get her feet torn to shreds. I must go over and help her'. The thing is I couldn't move. In the background a burger stall was playing Dolly's 9 to 5 on a loop system. I wasn't sure if they were playing it joyously or taking the piss as they had been working and knew that we all had to go back to work soon. I looked over at the naked lady and it looked like she was being helped by a couple of people. I knew I couldn't help her in my condition anyway. And in the background was Dolly's 9 to 5 playing over and over again. I felt like crying. Not sure why. I decided it was time to eat. I turned to my mate who hadn't eaten since the Wednesday either and put it to him that we eat. He admitted that it would be a good idea. So, we got to the back of a queue and listened to 9 to 5 relentlessly until we got to the front and got served. We took away our shit food and headed back to our tents, Dolly's 9 to 5 slowly getting more and more silent as we moved further away. Then it was gone and we went into our respective tents. I remember eating the food like a crazed animal, all the while with the fear inside me that I wasn't going to be strong enough to overcome the feeling of foreboding that I had. I knew I'd taken myself to the edge.

You'd think after that, that I wouldn't want to hear 9 to 5 ever again. Not so. Whenever I do hear it, I have an overwhelming urge to dance and also experience a joyous feeling. That to me says something. Just not sure what though.

Anyway, to cut a long and seemingly senseless post shorter, I'd have it known that I would definitely go and see Dolly. I know I'd enjoy it and I know that those around me would too.

Possibility that the lined up headliners (the apparently huge acts) didn't work out and, being that Dolly was already booked, she got shifted up to headline rather than getting in another headliner (or because they couldn't get another headliner)? A bit like Mumford this year when they were supposedly lined up to sub the Stones at one point.

There's surely a bit more to it than "Kenny played the legends slot so she will too". Circumstances can be different on any given year.

Oh please, I can quite accept that there are proper country music fans who love her to bits and think she is an amazing song writer. They are wrong but I won't judge them :P I just doubt the amount of those who would be in the Pyramid field.

She does have a novelty aspect to her that leads to this strange love in.

said it before and i'll say it again but i don't believe Mumfords were ever lined up to sub the Stones. Mumfords were headlining T (who often share headliners with Glastonbury, if not having Glastonbury headline acts lower on the bill - not the other way round) and we've heard that the Stones specifically asked for Primal Scream to sub them. Mumfords were always going to headline

i can't see a lack of headliners meaning that they give the bump up to Dolly. if they didn't consider her a headliner to begin with i don't see why they'd bump her up to one later, especially this early on

if confirmed i wold be quite surprised if she wasnst one of thte headliners. fantastic back catalogue and a lot of very well known songs to boot. i saw her a few years ago at the o2 and she was brilliant.

novelty. deffo not. no less of a novelty that say kasabian turning out their same of formulae and poeple are bigging thee up to headline..

all i can say wherever she plays. go see. fantastic

just watching the glasto highlights there and it got me thinking about the legends slot.

and i looked (not very well to be fair) but it seems that the legends slots are more nostalgic acts that people dont really get the chance to see otherwise (brian wilson, toni christie, ray davies etc)

but what stuck me is that none of them can still do sellout arena tours

this makes me think that dolly parton would headline if she played ...

if they get dolly to play teh sunday oldies slot then that will be a real coup for the team doing the organising. Dolly playing several nights at the o2 this year and sold out rather quickly. neil youngs 2nd gig at the o2 had tickets still availalbe up to a few days before the gig so draw your own comparisons

personally having seen her and am a fan i think she could nail a headline slot but whoever said about nto filling the field may be right as the demographic now at glastonbury seem to want bigger and more cooler bands playing.

either way really i think she would be grate to see at whatever point over the weekend she played and i think she would surprise a large number of people

The problem is we don't have access to know who the demographic is buying up the tickets for any band/act....other than a bit of a glance when we go see them.

It's like say Justin Bieber, he can sell a shedload of tickets at the o2 but you have to consider if Glastonbury's audience is mostly made up of 12 year old girls. So he aside from being terrible music he wouldn't make a great headliner.

I'd prob go and see her but off the top of head (and as a fairly big music fan), I can name: Jolene, 9 to 5, I Will Always Love You. Islands in the Stream (or whatever it's called - it's sh1t anyway - was that her?). Am I being thick?

No you're not being thick and you've named three songs. I've seen and discovered a lot of bands at Glasto where I couldn't name a single song beforehand

The thing to remember with people like Dolly (and Shirley Bassey was another example) they are not just people who've recorded music in the studio.

They are seasoned performers who can work and entertain a crowd.

I suspect that Dolly would go down a storm and win a lot of doubters over.
