I can't imagine they would have Dolly headline... Whilst she is a household name, I don't necessarily think that her music is played widely enough these days to warrant top slot at the festival... Unlike Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Springsteen etc who have wide back catalogues still being played in bars and clubs in the UK, the only exposure most people get to Dolly these days is "9 to 5" being played in Yates or some other terrible shithole...

A headliner at Glasto needs to do a 2ish hour long set which the majority of the audience knows the majority of... Dolly simply wouldn't meet that criteria and if the festival put her on the top slot at the Pyramid they would face serious overcrowding at the other stages.

Whilst this is no help, there was an interview with Emily in the paper (can't remember which on I'm afraid) where she mentioned booking someone she'd been trying to book for ages and the words "Sunday Tea Time" were used, so I'd put 2 and 2 together and ended up with Dolly in the legends slot. Will try and find article now.

Can't seem to find the interview, don't think I imagined it, read it out to our lass. Strange.

Like most of you no doubt, can't find anything reliable online to say Dolly confirmed as headliner...

As as large % of us agree we couldn't see her headline, fairly sure that's how the Eavis' will also see it.. And if Emily has booked her, she WILL be doing the legends slot as Michael books headliners right?

While we're on the subject just what is everyone's obsession with this woman on this forum?

I've been on here for years and every year people bleat on about Dolly as if her playing would be akin to Christ returning and turning two paltry bread rolls into 175,000 growlers in order to feed the masses. Truth is, she's shit. A pensioner with comedy breasts with a line in novelty country songs who wrote one of the most overplayed and sentimental-bollocks-of-a-songs of the 90's.

I assume the love is ironic, much in the same way that the love for Rolf was (look how that turned out!).

Ah, you see you're getting confused between 'what I think' and 'what's true'.

I don't think she's "shit" at all, and neither would the tens of thousands who'd enjoy her set, headlining or not. She's not to everyone's taste, just like plenty of what you enjoy won't be to everyone's taste either, but diversity makes for a great festival. Just go and watch somebody else.

She's done a lot of songs that people know. She's incredibly important and influentioal in the history of country/pop. Putting her in the 'novelty' bracket is fucking extraordinary.

and yeah, Like CG, I'm a big Bobby Gentry fan, but dismiss Dolly at your peril. Superb singer songwriter.

The thing is, do you reckon most of the people who would go see her at Glasto are are there for her retrospective or are they there to sing along to 9-5 and just to say they have seen Dolly.

If she's been booked its a novelty act and not much more for most people.

There seems to be a lot of love on here for Dolly, and fair play, I watched Kenny last year and really enjoyed it, despite it not being my cup of tea. I'll still be astonished if she's any higher up the bill on Sunday than Kenny......seems a shoe in for the same slot.
