There you go. You Can't Always Get What You Want, as the man says.

For the last decade of Bowie's performing career getting to see his live show was a piece of piss.

Now, though, when his gigs are rare as hen's teeth, it's a different story. The new album aside, not much has changed in the interim except the scarcity of the Dame In the Flesh experience. And that's what's driven up the demand.

We've had this kind of discussion before - with Stevie. What happened then was that once SW was announced, people listened to his classic albums and then when June came were fully conversant with his songs.

Not that Zep will play. I've been waiting twenty five years for it to happen. How many more times will we have these rumours?

Led Zeppelin reuniting at Glastonbury would be Eavis’ biggest coup hands down. Far bigger than The Stones (Notice im not saying a bigger band just a bigger coup)

The main reason being if you have wanted to see The Stones then you’ve had plenty of opportunities, they tour roughly every 4 years. Zeppelin on the other hand have played a handful of gigs in decades.

Put it into perspective The Stones played more gigs in a 3 weeks this year then Zeppelin have in 30 odd years

Argh, reading through this thread as a ticket holder is just horrid. The talk about led zep (and a few other legends) reforming comes up each year. The carrot dangles there for a few months until anticipation is at fever pitch and then they'll announce someone like elbow. Not saying the glasto headliners aren't usually strong, but these uber wishful thinking threads make all but the biggest announcements slight disappointments...

My two cents are that the last gig was specifically for their friends charity right (something like that anyway), in which case wouldn't they be more likely to announce glasto alongside a few dates, or do they have a particular connection to the festival to want to make it a one-off/exclusive event?

Does anyone know how long before the last gig were the announcement was made? How much time for rehearsals does the band need for a one-off event?

I think people are getting confused with Led Zep playing as part of some final shows and Led Zep reforming just for Glasto. One could possibly happen, the other has about as much chance of happening as getting the Beatles to play.

Ive been saying for ages to anyone that will listen to my ramblings that some kind of final Led Zep shows will happen next summer, the recent announcements of the unreleased songs coming out only makes it more likely. I can see a couple of big Hyde park or olympic stadium shows happening so we just have to pray that Eavis has the power to convince them to play Glastonbury in them middle of those dates.

Its very unlikely at the minute, but one can hope.

hahaha makes me laugh that for a very brief few hours this year a lot of people (including, unfortunately, me) were convinced that Prince was going to be playing at Shangri La at some point because of some Facebook picture / post

the sheer insanity that Glastonbury's mystique will put into some people is amazing. people will believe anything because Glastonbury is just that good

Nah, people don't give up that easy...

"TBA at 3:20:pm Saturday on John Peel? That must be Led Zeppelin then."

"That seems an awful long between Friendly Fires and Hot Chip. Led Zeppelin secret set?"

"I doubt they'll have Biffy Clyro actually headline the Pyramid. Led Zeppelin will be added above them later on"

They've only got together publically four times since Bonham died. Live Aid, the 40th Anniversary of Atlantic, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and in the O2 which was a celebration of Ahmet Erteguns life. And a jam at Jasons Bonhams wedding could be called a "reunion" I suppose.

Pretty special events. I'd be shocked if they got together for any sort of a tour just for the hell of it.

It's that latter one that makes me think it's not impossible.

I know it was for charity and I know Ertegun was a mate and, relatively-speaking, a biggish cheese amonst a certain group of musicians - but it still seems a pretty spurious reason for a reunion.

Basically, if for that then why not for almost anything else.

As long as they're better rehearsed / more sober than at Live Aid.

    • It was never going to be great was it, there is comments of Mickey Mouse all over socials lol which is very similar to Glastonbury.  Someone I know from RIP watched Welcome to the Jungle and left and they went saying they've got to see GNR. It was the only day not to see out as well.
    • I decided to goto bed early for the Aussie game rather than stay up for Scotland. I don't regret my decision, I also love the complete over reaction during the world cup when a player has 1 good game, that Watford winger is now everyones dream signing. Its also funny when clubs get into the hype and end up overpaying for someone who then does nothing in the prem.
