I think that Block 9 should be given more room to grow. They are talented guys who know their music and know their audience, I didn't get over there this year but the lineup they had over the week was stunning (if you like your classic house and acid era stuff). I know I'd rather spend the evening with fans of this scene than the associations we have with some of the dance village folk.

My fear with the success of the southeast corner is how there is no room to expand without impinging on the greenfields, avalon or cabaret when it is clear that this area is going to continue to evolve as a main attraction. Something is going to have to give and I, for one, would rather it be the southeast corner. Get some of those talented people out into silver hayes and give the corner some breathing room.

I don't agree about the "let silver Hayes bed in" idea. It just seemed a random collection of stages in a vast expanse/ walk through to me. It had no identity, and I can't see how it will ever have one unless they change it completely. it needs either to be an area as a whole or a collection of individual areas but all separated by something - even if its a bar or stalls or something

At the moment it just seems a Tumbleweed area, just a walk thouht to get from JP to the other stage, it just doesn't work, and I can't see how it ever will. They have changed it yes. But fundamentally it's the same area, with just different stages. It needs to be broken up a lot.

It is amazing what you can do with scaffold, board and artists.

I like what the people in Shangri La, block 9 and the Common are doing with carpentry, scaffolding and paint and I'd love to see more such false frontages on venues and think that the area could make more use of that to make the place feel less like a random collection of tents with different music playing.

Louder sound at most stages.

Bigger sound field for Arcadia with an even bigger light up sign saying "NO DAFT PUNK SECRET SET" :P

Better timing of bigger/popular acts, yes it means clashes but it should stop acts away from the Pyramid getting a silly sized that have mostly heard one song on Radio 1.

I agree on the Silver Hayes thing, it did seem bit lost but it's heading in the right direction ...The Gully/Blues were (despite the reported security) done well I thought and looked brilliant and the acts I saw there had a great atmosphere. (Bit further apart maybe, the blues sound seemed to bleed a little into the Gully.

I'd do something else with the the new Pussy Parlure, might have been the acts but it just felt like a very poor effort at decorating a tent. Was a strange atmosphere in there to. Sonic just felt a bit meh, to small really, I like what they are trying to do but it needs to be bigger I think and maybe get a a few more light cubes around it.

That said most of the dance area isn't really for me I don't think anyway, I always feel a bit out of place/sorts there I guess :P

I'll be honest. I don't really care what the do next year. I am not going due to a friends wedding and really i am not sure if I will bother to return again for a fair few years now. As everyone is saying, it has lost something for me, maybe having been 6 times it's all got a bit samey now, it doesn't seem as big to me anymore really and parts feel a little cliched. As far as the dance village goes, it'll always be crap, it's the nature of the whole scene, you either hate it or you take drugs and enjoy it, then forget what really happened.

Guess i am going to be away from these boards before long now.

Agree with more emphasis on diversity on main stages (Tibetan Monks/Malian music was great)

There was a topic solely on this but Psychedelic music (past/present) should be giving more priority as it ties the festival back to counter culture origins. The following are all touring and it would be great to celebrate them on the line up

Peter Daltrey (kaleidoscope/fairfield parlour)

Eric Burdon (animals)

Roky Erikson (13th floor elevators)

As for us punters, more participation and input towards the political and spiritual side of the festival.

+1 for decent weather too ;)

Add something chilled out into the vast empty middle wasteland of Silver Hayes.

Expand Arcadia sound field to reduce whinging.

Less late night dance, more variety - there are enough dance festivals already.

More bins and waste collection in campsites, there was nothing near us.

Better options for waste disposal in the campsite is a must, the campsite would be less of a tip if there was an obvious place folks were being encouraged to take their rubbish to.

To be honest a bit of 90s indie is always about and always gets a good reaction.

I'd like to see James headline the Other stage or play the legends slot (and as far as I am concerned they are as much a legend as Madness and other acts that have played that slot and would do just as well).

The inspirals always gave a good gig, would make a great band for the park.

Good shouts both, Nal. Caught a bit of William Elliot Whitmore at End of the Road the other year. Emiliana Torrini I used to love (Fisherman;s Woman etc) but it all got a bit smooth and glossy and anodyne. If you reckon she's returned to the good stuff, I'll give it a go.

In return, I recommend John Murry. Wandered in on the spur of the moment to see him in a tent at EOTR the other week and pretty much one of the most astonishing performances I'd seen in 25 years of going to gigs. Extraordinary.

Obviously live footage is always inadequate, but this will give you a flavour of what he's all about (skip the interview at the beginning)

£1 pint night on the wednesday at ALL the bars. Or just have one massive bar in the pyramid field on the wednesday.

Cheaper food.

Drug vendors on site.

More old school hip hop.

No big clashes.

More jazz.

£2 pint night saturday.

Arcade Fire to headline.

Sun.

Dr Dre to play a secret gig.

That's it :D

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
