Good shouts both, Nal. Caught a bit of William Elliot Whitmore at End of the Road the other year. Emiliana Torrini I used to love (Fisherman;s Woman etc) but it all got a bit smooth and glossy and anodyne. If you reckon she's returned to the good stuff, I'll give it a go.

In return, I recommend John Murry. Wandered in on the spur of the moment to see him in a tent at EOTR the other week and pretty much one of the most astonishing performances I'd seen in 25 years of going to gigs. Extraordinary.

Obviously live footage is always inadequate, but this will give you a flavour of what he's all about (skip the interview at the beginning)

Once again e festivals comes up trumps! Not really heard of this guy but listening to his album on you tube now after Mardy's post - so far it's exceptional. Will be purchasing this - unfortunately doesn't seem to be available on vinyl anywhere.

- A decent sized main dance tent, the one in silver hayes was too small

- My Bloody Valentine

- Pixies

- Arcade Fire

- A girlfriend who is willing to go with me but doesn't get pissed off because I don't want to watch the lumineers, mumford and sons, kodaline or some other assorted bollocks.

- More alcohol

- A tent which doesn't leak

Have looked at all the usual mainstream websites and I actually think it might not exist. Which this day and age would surprise me as surely the current vinyl target market is pretty much this guy's main fanbase.

These school summer holidays just gone have convinced me that the current vinyl target market is middle class children with meticulously crafted "scruffy" haircuts without the necessary equipment to play the records, hanging out in records shops, taking pictures of each other on their sodding telephones, picking up records and saying to their mates "Hey, Jamie, I reckon this 'Sigger Ross' album will look rally cool on my bedroom wall".

Now that you mention it, when my dad (pushing 60) saw that I'd purchased a turntable, he very excitedly disappeared into the loft and came back with a big box of his old records from the 60s and 70s. He's been listening to nearly exclusively jazz, soul and classical music since about the 80s, but since getting a whiff of his childhood back, he's been focusing all his efforts on tracking down albums he used to have by Bowie, The Grateful Dead, Creedence, Dylan, The Stones, The Who, Thin Lizzy and the Velvet Underground. He's added a top-of the range turntable to his monster sound system in the living room and I've managed to get him listening to Pixies and The Flaming Lips.

I wish my dad had been as careful. I've got loads of his stuff and most of it's fecked. eg An original copy of Aftermath, worth about 90 quid if it was in any nick but it's scratched to buggery and the sleeve's torn to shreds

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
