Little underwhelmed

The OP (Funkyfairy) is a regular poster on here and a Glasto goer, so I see the original post as fair comment.

I share the view that there will always be something magical about Glastonbury regardless of headliners but perhaps the gloom was prompted by early hopes being raised - such as possibilities early on of The Stones or Fleetwood Mac - and then dashed.

I don't necessarily mean you, not in the best of moods today! There have definitely been some sanctimonious viewpoints on here over the years though, ready to jump down people's throats the minute someone dares to appear a little nonplussed in the run-up about rumoured line-ups.

Apologies, as I didn't make myself clear. I was wondering why the OP thought that the statement "but Glastonbury is about more than the line-up" was a boring statement. I understand that the musical line up is important to many but without the other activities there then Glastonbury would be like any other simply music festival. Glastonbury is a performing arts festival and as a result is a much better place offering a richer eperience. What's boring about that?

"Glasto is more than a music festival" isn't a boring statement, it's true. But just because you comment on not being excited by the line-up, doesn't mean you don't realise that the statement is true. I've been going since 97, good weather and bad. I know exactly what the festival is all about. But the line-up isn't exciting the OP or me at the moment. Simple as that

but surely it's a similar situation every year? unless the headliners / high up artists happen to be your absolute favourite bands, then until lineup day, everybody's gonna feel a bit underwhelmed as it's only the 'big' acts that tend to get rumoured / confirmed early (with a few exceptions). the real gems come out on lineup day when we get to see all the smaller stages

I'm well aware that there haven't been many acts announced, and that that is the case every year. I also had one of my best years seeing hardly any acts (99). All I said originally was I have a feeling we might not have a vintage line-up this year going on other line-ups announce this year.

Of all the acts TBC so far, there is not one that I have any real interest in me but that doesn't bother me. I know there'll be plenty of acts on there that'll float my boat over the weekend and I also know there is so much else going on that I'll never have nothing to do if there's no one on that I want to see.

Understand the OPs point - I have felt that initially in the past. We all know Glastonbury isn't just about the line up but there is a reason we all love debating that very same line up so much.

Personally, having missed 2011 I cannot wait for Glastonbury this year. As other posters have said I wake up thinking about it and go to sleep thinking about it. Most people I know think I have gone mad................

ITS NOT ABOUT THE MUSIC... well, that's how I like to think of it,

I can cope with 2-3 bands a day, and can wander for the rest of it. So Far Arctics is my Friday night fun sorted! And no doubt i'll get many more!

From the supposed rumours so far, I've got 4 that I'd love to see. Namely Arctics, Rufus Wainwright, Nas and Foals.

But the early rumours always tend to be bigger, more mainstream acts or tiny acts who self confirm. It's generally not until the whole lineup is released that the gems present themselves. They'll come.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
