NERD played the Pyramid on Friday (tenuous I know)

Lupe played West Holts on Friday (even more tenuous I know)

Lupe was great, his speech at the end about Jay Z headlining was cracking. Great set as well, loved his first two albums.

There's nowt wrong with hip hop, I'd say it's roots represent the most important of all genres aside from the blues. Sadly, hip hop has become a bastardised travesty of it's former self these days, but there are still great artists. I'd dearly love to see The Roots play one year, They could easily headline/sub Other.

they're not that similar but if you like the feel good hip-hop vibe of J5 I suspect you'll like The Roots. More instrument orientated with a jazz & soul influence but a great blend none the less

I stupidly missed them at Bestival last year and i'm beginning to think i'll regret that for a long time

I've always been more into rock/indie/grunge, etc, but have gotten into Hip Hop in the last few years more and more. I went to see J5 in Birmingham last year, and have to say, they are by far one of the best acts I've ever had the privilege to see. Get any of their albums, and you're in for a treat - and live, just amazing - everything about them - the atmosphere is just so laid back, but at the same time, so up for a good time, the music is laid back and smoot, but with the greatest flow, precision and skills, and at the end of it, they're such great guys (they all stayed behind to meet fans, chat and sign stuff for everyone). Can't speak highly enough of them, and if you're not into hip hop, but want to try - there's no better group to get started with!!

    • I’ve had a good sleep and I feel weirdly zen about the whole thing.   My first Primavera, so not the greatest first impression. I guess today couldn’t be any worse, right?   Thoroughly enjoyed Men I Trust and Geese. Cupra is a beautiful stage and the crowd seemed fun, friendly and engaged.   I think it probably could have gone even worse, considering how dangerous the crowding felt at times.   Anyway, we go again.
    • Brighton centre is a weird old venue for the Mary Wallopers - a great band, a really good live spectacle, and its a saturday night as well which sets it all up - but its at the bloody Centre? a charmless nonsense of a conference centre? Brighton dome is a ten min walk away and is so much nicer a place to see bands its ridiculous!    ah well, i'll probably mosy along anyways . . .
    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
