So unless all you really give a toss about is whether or not your team has won then your a midlle class arm-chair fan. Genius

the very worst fans I've encountered have always been the "I only care about whether my team has won" types - who along with that often don't know half the players in 'their' team, often (in the south, anyway ... they might often be the fans of a particular club :P) have never been to a game, wear their club shirt far too much, and have no interest in football outside of their club.

So they often turn out to be the very definition of what Barry said, rather than what he said.

Totally in agreement on this, what hes saying your only a football fan if your quite affluent, dont work weekends and dont have other hobbies.

Like others nowadays I only go to there clubs a few times a season, Would I be able to afford more yes and no. Like others I have a family, go to gigs, festivals, into photography, work weekends and love spending time with the family.

Now lets take the money situation for a dad with 2 boys to go and watch a say prem game your looking at pretty much 100 quid a pop, how many can afford to that every week?

But its only barry, he must be more bored than usual today.

Good game. Glad to see everything to play for as well, 4/3/2/1 is an interesting distribution, particularly with 4 playing 1 and that win being all-important. Does anyone know if qualifying is done on goal diff or head-to-head?

Glad Poland got a point, its good for the tournament that the hosts are still in the mix going into the last group game. Looking at fixtures its quite possible that no club will win their first 2 games and only 1 of the 3 who can are real contenders to win the thing. Looking forward to holland v germany more than any game in the tournament, holland need to win which should make it an open game. If Germany win they will probably be able to rest key players in game 3 and also get a relatively easy quarter final which would give them a big advantage over their rivals.

Russians have received a 6 point deduction from their next Euros qualifying campaign for their fans behaviour on Friday, nothing said about yesterday yet.

At last UEFA have made a punishment that actually means something.

Ah OK, not what BBC 5Live just reported, but maybe I misheard.

I wonder if yesterday will count? Even if not, I can't see Russia getting through the rest of the tournament without any more problems. Their fans seem well up for it

The commentators/pundits in this tournament are just as bad as always. They are in general at best unknowledgable and at worst disrespectful about anyone not linked to "the greatest league in the world". Before the game Hansen said he had heard that Hummels was a good player. Surely someone with any pride in their work would have made some effort to see one of the best defenders in the world before the tournament, or would that get in the way of a round of golf?

The World Cup has the joy of seeing much more variety in style. African and South American footballing nations add a stupid amount of value. And as you say, Japan played some really nice stuff 2 years ago as well. I think the European teams do play better in the Euros, partially because they're more familiar with the opposition (both in terms of players and styles), but I think the conditions has a huge effect. Playing in places such as South Africa and Japan has hindered European teams in the past, and I'm sure it'll be similar in Brazil and Qatar.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
