yeah radiohead were grande - and they pulled out a greatest hits set which was unusual, but brilliant

Heres my evidence for why Chilis would be better, and for some reason I'm semi convinced its them now

a) they acknowledged they got shit late Stadium Arcadium tour, and acknowledged they were exhausted and couldn't be arsed, on the brink of break up - but damn i cant find the vid where the do

B) Josh can't really jam, so they are alot shorter, and when they do its bongo crazy, sweet.

^their setlist from last night. 4 of BTW, Cali, and their latest album, only 2 from SA (their cack album in my opinion) and 3 from BSSM (4 if you include Soul To Squeeze which they recorded for it). Alot more fair to their history, and the better songs of the albums too.

I wouldn't be surprised, or bothered, if it was them

Yeah, Melvin said we booked the biggest not the best, which suggests he threw all his weight behind them as being star headliner.

I can appreciate people believing Arctics were poor, but It certainly wasn't only their performance which was a factor. They also definitely weren't the star headliner that year.

To be fair I'd be willing to give them a chance if they played that setlist, it's actually really good. The hate for Chili's is strong on here but I am a fan, used to be a pretty big one actually, of them on record. Not seen them live and if their live performances have improved it'd be worth a look in, I think they'd be a much bigger ticket seller than pretty much all the suggested headliners as well, even Green Day imo.

I actually had the chance to see the chili's on their 2011 arena tour but didn't bother as 55quid is a pisstake for them, my friends who did go said they were great, really good energy and seemed happy to play all the hits.

2007's line-up was one of the weakest the festival has ever had. A strong Top 2/3 for each day, but most of the line-up was landfill Indie and boring emo nonsense. Plus the "Nu-Rave day" in the tent...I shudder.

Of course, they more than made up for it the following year.

Chillies being there would make me strongly consider giving it a miss this year. They were bloody awful at Hampden. I was quite a big fan, and remember reading about their R+L performance and being sure it was people just being hypercritical. Sadly I was wrong. Loss pointless funk improvised spots and lacklustre effort. Say what you want about Green Day musically but you'd get effort and more than likely a greatest hits set also.

Thankfully the RHCP seems based on nothing other than something throwing their name out there.

Saw them on their 2011 arena tour in Manchester and thought they were brilliant personally! I have seen a lot of videos on YouTube of their performances though and wondered if I caught them on a good night, wouldn't mind them playing though, much prefer them to Greenday

really? i don't know many people who still claim to be big Chili Pepper fans, especially in the Reading/Leeds demographic. they're way past it, imo. last two albums have been garbage, their setlists look incredibly dull (how a band manages to play the worst songs off each of their records is beyond me) and now that John's gone they're just a shadow of what they once were (and this is all coming from somebody who once held RHCP as one of his favourite bands). they've been on the verge of breakup quite a few times over the past few years so it wouldn't surprise me if they split soon, maybe after one more album

I've always wondered if the response to that 2007 set has had some kind of impact on their reputation? They're still a big band but they're not really a name that gets people excited these days and I don't think they've headlined a UK festival since. I don't remember a great deal of hype surrounding their last album either.

Between 2002 and 2007 they were maybe the biggest band in the world but they don't seem to have that these days.

Of course, John leaving might have something to do with it.

RHCP certainly don't have the draw the had in their heyday. Uninspiring booking in my opinion: would suggest to me that Melvin had no other good options really, especially after his comments post 2007.

    • Reading all the feedback with interest.  If there are now 75,000 tickets officially sold, plus who knows how many more people blagging in - then on the Friday evening and Saturday in particular, it's not ridiculous to suggest there's 50,000 people at Mordor, which is a stadium gig - except with much worse sight lines, an inferior PA, and far less bars and toilets. The Thursday evening in 2022 was of course infamous but on the Friday night for Beck I was trapped about 150m from the stage, surrounded by chatters, and with no prospect of getting nearer the stage.  With hindsight that was when I realised the fest had one way or another fundamentally changed.  Also noting on Reddit that some folk didn't enjoy the Cure or Gorillaz because the sets were "too long".  In future bands may be better received if they actually just play their top 10 Spotify songs then get back off the stage.
    • Has Glastonbury already got council permission for that 5 year run?
    • This keeps being mentionned but it only happened because Dua's Europe Tour was rescheduled due to Covid. Dua's arena show was initially planned for October 2021 but got rescheduled to May 2022 a month after the PS2022 lineup was announced.   I hope Massive Attack and Doja get to come back. I guess it'll depend whether they have a summer tour planned next year.
    • Solo album on the way for the singer of a certain band.  Il leave the name of the act out and see if anyone listening can guess....  its er rather obvious lol
