2013 Lineup

I can see GD headlining this year (simply as i think they may have been booked before the triology and BJ's problems) but yeah, i think they would need to have one big album, preferably that is a lot more mature than some of the things they have been doing recently (what kind of 40 year old musician writes a song called 'fucktime?!') if they want to remain headline status. Otherwise i can see them gradually fading away like so many other bands have.

Its pretty hard to watch GreenDay as a band in their 40s thinking they are 20 years old. I am sure people will disagree with me but I think Blink 182 have done a great job in showing their age and still making good music.

but would Blink even be considered a headliner now that their reunion hype is over? i seem to recall their headline status being brought into question in '10. think they'd sub if they were to return (which i can't see happening any time soon)

All rumours at the moment are just names being thrown out there haha :P when was the hampden show? I haven't actually seen them since reading so I wouldnt know how good they are now but listening to their bootlegs now and they seem like they have got it back.

I agree though, Green Day would be good too. I think whoever it'll be will be a good'un

By the way, though Stadium Arcadium is patchy and not that great, it does contain the chili's best song by a country mile: Wet Sand. My favourite song of all time, would urge anybody to listen to it.

I'd much prefer any of the guessed. Green Day rumours have some legs at least and that's the best case scenario. RATM would be cool and I missed Metallica at Download because of vodka jelly shots so they'd be welcome too.

I'm gonna take a guess at Green Day because if they were offered to headline i think they would have said yes straight away. They must be well aware that 21st Century Breakdown wasn't that well received, let alone the latest three so they'll probably wanna headline while they still can because i get the feeling they will fall off. So this year or next is possibly their last chance. Also has anyone ever seen Green Day and not enjoyed it? Still rate them as my favourite live band.

And in reply to negative comments towards Arctic Monkeys a few pages back despite them being terrible at Leeds in 2009 i saw them headline their own festival kind of thing at Don Valley Bowl in Sheffield in 2011 and it was absolutely incredible. (The hometown crowd probably did help to be fair but Leeds isn't exactly far away.)

Big fan of a good 1/2 of Stadium Arcadium. Would enjoy seeing them headline as long as they play a great career spanning set. Noticed Blur have disappeared from the rumours list. So I'm going to guess we'll either get Sabbath, Green Day or RATM as headliner. Think RHCP will do 2014.

1 week left until this argument ceases to rage and the next one begins...

please let it be someone who has hardly been mentioned (aerosmith) cause then it shall be amusing to see the reactions.

off topic slightly here but is worth it anyway:

Apologies, grammar wasn't great there. I would have thought if Sabbath aren't announced tomorrow for Hard Rock Calling, surely that increases their chances of being the final R/L headliner? Can't see anywhere they would play in the UK unless they wait for an Autumn arena tour or something

I think Green Day is the best shot left. Normally the suggestion would be laughed out of town due to the Emirates gig and the six-week gap in tour schedule but the the second half of the claim that they're headlining/NIN are playing that surfaced before anything had come out about NIN being proved likely seems to lead weight to the Green Daybit being true. Also as johnngypsy said they'd probably jump at the chance and could be had pretty cheap and they're a general all-round crowd-pleaser.

    • I hope it stays under £400.  A lot of us aren't flush with cash.  Charities are great but do they need £1 mil (I jest)
    • You're not wrong - but i still don't like it!  F5 forever
    • Its fascinating how you turn every point of conversation into a matter of 'winners' and 'losers' - everyone owes you because . . . actually, i dont really understand why, because you predicted that things would get more expensive over time?
    • New Overmono album is... just good for me. Had high hopes which were later dashed a bit after listening to some of the singles but they brought me back around enough to appreciate some very nice work in there. https://music.apple.com/ie/album/pure-devotion/1894298100
    • I don't really worry about headliners (unless there's a real possibility of a once-in-a-lifetime artist landing for it) but I'm starting to feel a bit cold on the names floating around bar Fontaines.  Harry Styles and Sam Fender, I can see the value and commercially speaking, they've earned it.  Sabrina Carpenter is obviously popular enough to do it - but after she's headlined everywhere else and done Coachella earlier this year, is it not just a bit predictable to follow what other festivals have done?
