For the years I've been to Leeds, the top 3 atmospheres each time have been:

2010: Limp Bizkit, Paramore, Blink-182

2011: The Offspring, 30 Seconds To Mars, Rise Against

2012: The Courteeners, Foos, Kasabian.

Keep in mind I only went for the day in '10 & '11.

One man's atmosphere is another's getmethefuckoutofhere.

My best atmospheres for those years would have been;

2010: Ash, Kele, LCD Soundsystem

2011: Death From Above 1979, Muse, Pulp (and millions more, 2011 was wonderful)

2012: Justice, The Cure, The Cribs

EDIT: Libertines over Ash in 2010 actually, through some supreme blonde moment I completely forgot how excellent the atmosphere was for them.

I may have missed it, but is there a valid reason RHCP have been counted out? (Other than the pointless argument of "they were shit in 07".)

They seemed to have shied away from the majority of European festivals on this tour, so I'm expecting them to do a few this summer, if only for the easy cash cow? 6 years seems a long enough period for them to return & in 07 they played R&L at the end of their world tour...which coincidently it would be again this year.

While The Cure were awesome this year, the atmosphere was pretty sucky, particularly compared to Foos. The Foo's performance was 'fairly good', but the atmosphere made it almost as good an experience as The Cure. Almost.

The Foos may have had legions of lemmings jumping and cheering, that's one type of atmosphere, but Mumford, 2DCC, The Courteeners and a lot of other toss has had that too. The atmosphere created by Rob Smith, met with the subtle sense of rapture and awe from the (admittedly somewhat spare) crowd was magic for me.
