In 2011 they said Prince, U2 and Coldplay - got 2/3, and potentially Prince dropped out and was replaced with Beyonce? (wasn't she originally planned to play under Coldplay?)

He would make a good headliner, but may not be accepted with open arms from the festival faithful.

His shows have more of a party/night on the town atmosphere than the usual festival bands

Everyone knows if he pulls it off he will be put on the dreaded festival rotation. V, Reading, Iow and T will throw money at him for a few years

I just think we've been very spoiled with headliners in previous years. Expectations are too high

Dizzee CV: 4 albums, (5 probably by the time he headlines), 5 number one singles (probably more by the time he headlines), worked his way up from nothing to get where he is, original artist, pioneer of UK rap scene, already supported headliner on pyramid and nailed it. Successfully headlined smaller festivals. Live band.

He deserves a go. Same people probably moaning about the same old glasto headliners on rotation. It'd be great to see someone else get a go. Rather him closing than Mumfords. At least he'd put on a fucking party.

yeah so i hear all your arguments as to who is biggest and who has sold the most and all that and well, i think you've all missed the point.

when Mumford & Sons release a pop song that repeatedly rhymes 'heroin' with 'ketamine' and get it played, repeatedly, all over kids radio, then, and only then, will i entertain the idea that they are better suited to ending a weekend at Glastonbury.

we'll be chanting "BIG DIRTY STINKING BASS" all the way home on Monday morning, and we all know it. anyone who doesn't agreee with me obviously loves Mumford & Sons.

Don't all acts 'work their way up from nothing'? And purely to be difficult I wouldn't call him original or a pioneer, he's taken something to the mainstream and been very successful at it while still retaining his crediblity so fair play but he's not exactly a trailblazer.

I really don't understand what happened to Dizzee Rascal. He came out with a brilliant album and a bit. Now every time he release a song I'm pretty sure it's a spoof, or something for Comic Relief. But then it turns out it isn't.

I'm not joking in the slightest when I say that. And I'm not someone who always bitches about bands 'selling out'. But there's not chance Dizzee will play more than a tune or two from the first two albums, so for that reason I'm out.

His stuff is now much more chart orientated than his first album, arguably Dream opened him up to the masses, where obviously he was going to make more money and more fame than remaining in the pure grime scene. Singing with Florence at the Brits was the final nail in the grime coffin and I don't think he's ever looked back

That said I don't particularly want to hear some young black dude from the hood singing about pussyoles and other shite I was listening to from NWA over 20 years ago.

Basically what he impplied was that they use his name/image in rumours to try and built up the sales yet it has never been officilally proposed or discussed that he will be singing there. I'm thinking that a. he is going to be too expensive , b. he will have ridiculous demands for such a 'special' person that he is and c. he isnt worth it anyway (my c point is purely my opinion!)

Can't wait to see the kasabian!

Mumfords subbing the Stones and Dizzee being a nailed on headliner does seem odd (if that is in fact what is going on). would've thought it'd be the other way around and Mumfords would be nailed on to headline the Sunday and Dizzee would be subbing the Stones / ready to step up as headliner if they don't work out. but as i said, Arctics, Mumfords, Dizzee seems poor. three headliners, all of which have been questioned as headliners in this thread (and all of which have been considered as Other Stage headliners at one point or another, albeit Arctics rather stupidly)

    • Consider that the sound quality can be better near the front bars right behind the soundbooth rather than closer to the stage, like with mbv. And of course, the front sections are full of talkers too.   The most courteous move would be to have conversations in the very back of the field.
    • I mean...I do think it all needs more regulation, but god knows how when it's all so global...but there's so much stuff on there that is messing with our little minds. But also, he has given these companies till September, and well...he'll surely be gone by then. I think social media ban for under 16s will likely happen, but I think regulating it for everyone is better. It's the not the kids we should be worried about, it's all those middle aged doom scrolling keyboard warriors like me.
    • I agree the prices are tough for locals. You can see if Porto timetable is the type that works for you and it's a terrific city. Also cheaper. https://www.primaverasound.com/es/porto/lineup-porto
    • thanks XXialac! i guess for us the most important aspect will be a festival that starts very late in the day, specially in these southern countries were it can be really hot! The combination of visiting a new city, having good lunches and enjoying a festival is a absolute must for us. Also, we like headliners but the undercard is just as important; truly enjoyed Men I trust, NewDad, Big Thief this year so from that angle it is not really a big thing if a festival is somewhat smaller.    Apparently my bad, i had 5 in my system but 0.5 (10%) increase is still huge. I am not sure how teenagers can afford these prices............
