2013 Headliners

Didn't speak to the crowd once (from what I remember), set list was pretty dull, the order of it was pretty annoying. They just cranked out song after song. It wasn't like you were seeing a band perform. Okay it may not be in their persona, but that's probably why I don't think they are a good live band.

Sorry to bring all this up again but... Was just about to suggest them... They were incredible. They definitely played Pictures of You. I remember welling up That's what The Cure do, and it was fucking awesome. Rob doesn't like speaking to the crowds, he even admitted that himself during the set. The setlist was pretty much perfect, they made sure all the douchebags who were only there for 1 or 2 songs had to experience all their other classics.

I was at Leeds last year. The Cure was the most magical set I've ever seen. They played every single 'hit' I'd expect from them.

Half of my friend group came out moaning it was shit because they didn't know any songs. How stupid can people be? For a start, it's your fault if you don't know the songs. Secondly, how on earth does you not knowing the songs make a band shit?

I knew all of the songs, but some of them I didn't know well. Throughout all the atmospheric, slow songs, I was mesmerised by the band on stage. Throughout all the uptempo, pop songs, I danced like I've never danced before, and made sure I had the time of my life. I screamed my lungs out to Wrong Number, which remains my favourite ever moment at a gig/festival.

From now on, whenever The Cure play in the UK, I'll be there. And I wouldn't have said this before their Leeds set last year. That's how good it was in my eyes.

Anyway, I've completely forgotten why I began to write this post. But yeah, The Cure were incredible at Leeds.

A genuinely innovative band with an enormous back catalogue of songs.

I have a horrible feeling we'll get the killers though.

Arctics, cure, prince. That would be spot on.

They were the only reason i was tempted to go to reading last year. Too expensive for a shit festival though.

As much as I love them, 80% of the punters and TV watchers wouldn't sit through the set they played at Leeds, brilliant though it was. I'd see that show again in a heartbeat, but I very very very much doubt they'll be booked for Glastonbury.

I think there is too much bad blood for Eavis to book them again. But I guess he may have changed his mind if he watched them at reading or bestival.

Another problem is that they have already headlined 3 times and i'm sure Eavis once said that was the limit.

Something about Smith saying they were booked in 04 (news article on here somewhere). Then Eavis saying they were crap when they played before (according to Neil, I never saw about it)

My question of doubt has always been why book them 3 times to headline if Eavis thought they were crap? Ive always suspected that Eavis was talking to them in 04 and either got pissed at Smith giving it away or Smith got pissed cos Eavis didnt want them headlining.

I get both sides of The Cure debate. I didn't really 'put much in' to the Bestival gig, and didn't massively enjoy it. At the back of the crowd and girlfriends wasn't too keen.

But I've listened to them more and more since. There's real quality throughout their back catalogue, and if you can be bothered to actually listen and pay attention (rather than have to have a hype man shouting "Let me hear your Glastonbury" every 10 minutes) then I think you'd have an ace headliner.

i can't see The Cure headlining Glastonbury any time in the near future, if at all again. they worked so well at Bestival because, at the time, it was such a huge booking for such a niche festival. they had nothing to win and nothing to lose - just got on stage, did their shit to an eager crowd, and left, and Bestival was the perfect festival for them to do that. can't help but feel Reading and Leeds struggled to get headliners last year and so The Cure were drafted in off of the hype of their Bestival performance. no doubt in my mind if they hadn't done Bestival, they wouldn't of done Reading and Leeds. but what do they really have to gain from doing Glastonbury these days? can't see anybody getting overly excited over it, they're past the point of needing to promote new albums etc. i'd find it weird if they headlined

Arctic Monkeys - Fleetwood Mac - Gaga

Noel Gallagher - Mumford & Sons - Pixies (Or maybe Plan B depending).

Sounds like a fun shout.

I've only peiced that together from rumours and The T in the park romance glastonbury has!

(Changing the subject just slightly...) Is there any particular reason Bob Dylan hasn't played in 15 years? With Tempest out, and no dates apart from Hop Farm off the back of it, I can see him perhaps subbing Pyramid (or lower? He played 4th last time)
