granted i don't think he'd be a particularly suitable headline choice anymore, i think, given the extent of his contribution to music, it'd be wrong for him to play anything under sub. if leonard cohen can sub (and i mean this with absolutely no disrespect made to cohen, one of the greatest popular lyricists and songwriters of all time) then dylan certainly should

well you're either being awkward or are incredibly ignorant if you don't realise that the key demographic / main percentage of attendees of Hop Farm would appreciate a Bob Dylan headline performance more than the key demographic / main percentage of attendees of Glastonbury. if Dylan got announced as a headliner for Glastonbury an awful lot of people would have question marks over their heads as to why he was there in such a position. at Hop Farm... well, he's been there twice in the past three years. says it all

I reckon, having pondered it for a the last 10 minutes, I reckon there is a difference. Dylan was announced as headliner at Hop Farm and people came specifically to see him (whether they were going to get what they expected is another matter), he had a field of people who were Dylanites.

Dylan at Glastonbury, well now, he wouldn't let the set be filmed for starters, which would presumably bugger up the deals with media partners, and more importantly, he's not predictable enough to be headliner at Glastonbury.

Now, I'm a massive Dylan fan, he is, as far as I'm concerned the greatest artist of our time. But is he right for a Glastonbury headliner, no, I don't think he is. This is not to denigrate him, it's more to praise him, he's an artist, he follows his own path, you won't get a mass singalong of a perfect reproduction of a 1963 version of 'Blowing in the Wind', you'll get an awkward, wilfull old sod.

And I love him for that.

Sorry, but it was you that got n his high horse and decided that a discussion of Dylan wasnt appropriate for this thread. I frankly couldnt give a fuck whether you like Dylan or not - what I do object to is being told that I cannot discuss whatever subject I choose on here. It was you that was seeking to stop discussion, not me

And if you cant argue on a discussion forum, what can you do?

People like me? What the fuck is thatv supposed to mean? You know nothing about me..

In fact, I think you're right. Dylan wont headline. I dont want Dylan to headline. But he is hugely more deserving of a headline slot than all of the three currently being touted as favourites and saying so in this thread is entirely appropriate
