It is representative of a problem, but its nowhere near as much as said, and nowhere near as prevalent as in other areas of life. It doesn't mean it can't be looked at or talked about, but I think its been over represented.

I think he means that the fact that private educated people have a better chance of succeeding in the world is a damning indication of equal opportunity in society.

People have just compared the album chart in 2010 to that of 1960/70/80/90.

And as someone up there pointed out, radiohead went to private school and I love them, so I certainly dont hate bands just because they went to private school.

I hate the fact that a private school education gives you such a massive advantage in life, and that advantage has now spread to the music scene too. Another door slams shut in the face of the working classes

I think something like commercial charts is exactly where you'd be wrong. There's no way some of the hip-pop that spreads throughout the charts nowadays would have had its equivalent back then. If you look at people like Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah, Labrynth, Leona Lewis etc. etc. who do chart well often, there's massive social mobility. As I said, I agree with you in certain areas, but considering the prevalence of music such as the above mentioned now, its hard to agree with chart comparisons.
