  1. SHALL @oneeye I've been there too. Three lots of brain surgery for hydrocephalus as an adult - two shunts and then several years later a recurrance and they had to drill a hole in my forhead and create a new natural drain channel. Only problem was it the op knackered my memory. They managed to cut the link between (in computing terms) between my desktop (thought processing) and my hard drive (stored memories). So when I came round the surgeons were excited that they'd saved my life but I didn't recognise my wife, my kids or know who I was. I had to give up work and sat at home while my mind constructed new neural pathways to link my desktop and hard drive. Six months of sitting in the garden reflecting and with support and encouragement from my family I went back to college and retrained as an adult ed tutor - my third career. It was a great time being a tutor but I'm now a happily retired old fart.

  6. Surely given this arena tour is in service of the greatest hits album they’ve just released it’s all just going to be stuff off that? The 2019 Pyramid setlist was perfect by the way. A masterclass in knowing what the crowd wanted and giving it to them.

  7. Easter 1980 we were lucky enough to go to the US on holiday - a very rare treat for any family in those days. We flew from Heathrow on a Pan AM 747 and whilst at the airport saw David Soul strolling through followed by a handful of fans. He had a dazzling smile, cowboy hat, boots, shades and a long leather coat. Having been a big fan of Starsky and Hutch that was pretty exciting. We also met the Pat Travers Band on the plane, they were nice, but we didn't know their name and pretty sure I was quite nonplussed, hence I was surprised firstly to see them picked up in a Cadillac limo from JFK airport (such cars were still the preserve of the wealthy then) and when we went to a giant record store in New York it had a range of their records.

  8. Not that I can see. But given an announcement is now less than 12 hours off, we're gonna find out soon enough.

  9. Impressive. I mean, tbf, I use setlist.fm for similar purposes going back to my first show in 2009, though this is incomplete thanks to not being as fresh on local smaller stuff when I was a teenager. Excel feels more formal and probably more accurate though.

  10. So you've said a few times. The thing is, it's not like people are being critical of Labour AND giving the Conservatives a big free pass. Most of them will vote Labour and the Tories won't even get a look in. Casting a critical eye on a political party before you lend them your support (I very intentionally use the word support instead of vote) is the right thing to do.

  11. I need to do my list before some of the tickets from the 90s fade completely and I can't read what they were.

  12. I think (but don't know for sure) I saw Primal Scream play the Other Stage (may have been called something else at the time) one year. It was both cosmic visually and audibly. Then again, I had taken mushrooms. While I was there, flying off me tits, my mate nudged me and said 'Have a look at the Grim reaper' behind us. I looked, and there indeed, was the f**king Grim Reaper. Only for real - some bloke had actually dressed up as the Grim Reaper, complete with scythe. What kind of an evil bastard dresses up as the Grim Reaper at Glastonbury - knowing that many people will get the 'Fear' when seeing him?

  13. 1. First time seeing Arcadia, in it's original SE location. 2. Oh My God It's The Church (Avalon), the music's pretty dodgy, but the crazy presentation and showmanship is really worth seeing (once). 3. The Darkness (Pyramid, 2003), only because it was the first band I saw at Glastonbury, and first at the Pyramid, and right at the front, so the whole experience is still clearly imprinted on my mind, including Justin's ludicrous outfit that got tangled with his guitar.

  14. That's great news. Our local venue, Exeter Cavern, survived Covid and seems to be doing OK. Some things have changed though, weekday gigs now seem to finish by 10-10.30 whereas before it wasn't unheard of for the band to come on at that time. Reducing the hours cuts a lot of costs. Also enables, where applicable, a club night to run afterward bringing in a second set of punters looking to have a good time and spend cash. A lot aren't in the lucky situation of being able to do that though.

  15. I'd say bring back Hidden Stage which was missed this year and put them there. But not sure if there are any locations for it any more in the new reduced space setup.

  17. Been listening to the SPRINTS debut album and now I'm a bit sad they're not on the line up (yet). Would be a great replacement if one of the smaller acts cancel.

  20. You are upside down to us! Well, not really, but you know what I mean. Anyway, you get about a bit. Where's next - the moon!? Hope you are having a fab time. And I think it's pure brilliance to have packed a Glasto t shirt. I also wonder if you'll get any comments on it?

  23. I've mentioned this previously, but I make no apology for repeating it. I saw Lana Del Rey as headliner at Latitude Festival in 2019. She was due to play 80 minutes but turned up 20 minutes late so only did 60 minutes. 10 minutes of this was spent at the front of the stage signing autographs for fans. It is no exaggeration to say around 50% of the audience left during her performance. I have never witnessed anything like it before or since. That said, I love her music, but in 35 years of gig-going she is the act I would least like to watch again.

  25. very sad news. Having just lost Moles here in Bath, I empathise. Would be nice if the big venues helped out, but don't see it happening soon. I really wish some artists would step up, maybe those that have been through the venues on the way up. Eg. If they could get someone like Manics or Suede in to Moles, they could charge maybe £100 as a fund-raiser. Seeing bands of that scale in such a small place would be worth the cash, and would raise plenty to go towards keeping them alive.

  26. Really need that French model where the big venues support the smaller ones , sadly never going to happen in this country 😞

  30. Negotiating is one thing, reality is another. I don’t think QOTSA would be playing 4 days in a row and getting all the equipment to/from Scandinavia in one day is a bit of a stretch which leaves them available only for the last day. Would they sub Fred? The Strokes don’t seem to be active at the moment so Sziget would have to pay extra for an exclusive show. Is it worth it? They’re not popular outside the UK.

  31. People give the Tories free passes all the time yet instantly moan the minute there's a headline about Labour they don't like. Case in point is the bad faith moans for years about Labour having no policies and no when the Tories say they don't have any ones there's silence. Double Standards.
