Weather thread - 2027

Has been a bit of a scorchio this year. 

With 2 more years of global warming / climate change before the next Glasto what are the expectations?

As this year has proven, temperatures above 22 degrees (24 if cloudy) damage the festival experience.

The worst thing was yesterday barely any wind at times. You gotta love it that the clouds just inch by during the day.

 

 

Let it rain, let it rain in 27. Or just 30+ everyday and all the sun worshippers get more comeuppance and youll change your thought process when we ask for cool temps and some balance.

The warmer nights were welcome and the clouds yesterday morning whilst packing up the tent. UV sun umbrella (which is really light weight) to deploy as portable shade whilst sitting in various places and wearing damp hamman towels really helped and must remember for future years. All in all I’d say it was pretty amazing weather wise!

Next year? Also the seaguls if anyone is on the farm in 2026 would love to know if they opportunistically turn up.

It was too hot. If they're going to keep holding it in the summer they will need more shaded areas etc

I read recently they'd bought more land and are planting a load more trees, would it be possible to convert a field to plantation or expand one of the wooded areas, that may lower local temperatures.

Brave new world innit. We're a long way from 2007 being a flood zone or 2011 giving Bono a rain storm to blame rather than the odd call to put Glastonbury in the middle of a US tour.

Wouldn’t feel right moving it to May - the obvious bonus of when it’s held is the maximum amount of daylight hours. I’m sure Emily mentioned planting more hedgerows which along with hedgerows trees and small glades of woodland would help.  Though obviously it’s going to take sometime to mature. So maybe more shaded spaces like the tree stage in the interim.

They’re move prevalent the last few years and come earlier - it used to be that they’d come on a Sunday. I didn’t see them attacking people for food in the main market place for food like last year. I really hope someone is doing an academic study on gulls and their migration habits. We don’t get many gulls in this part of the world, though they’re in Bath. Weirdly they inhabit the University of Bath but not Bath Spa University just a few miles away. I’ve probably thought about this too much 🤣

Dancing in the rain to Marie Davidson on Thursday was beautiful. Other than that, I'm glad it stayed dry and hot. 31°C is not weather warning territory!

I doubt they'd ever move the festival earlier in the year.

 

I liked the Woodsies dappled shade area - not sure its feasible but maybe they could do something similar at the extended back area of the Other and the Pyramid over the road for those suffering when the sun is beating down.

Loved the weather this year, nice and warm, hot at times, put my 2 years olds suncream on once then jibbed it off cos im tanned by heritage anyway. 

 

Bring on the 25-30 range every day
