You could make a case that Noah Kahan as (presumably) a sub is a coup given he did a string of arenas last year, and (quickly) sold out BST this summer.

 

While not a "coup" as such, having 2 of the Latitude headliners bang in the middle of the pack also suggests that they're doing well in the context of the current festival market.

nope. Theyre having some down years and its going to be an interesting 18 months leading up to the 2027 sale thats for sure. Price will go up again for tickets. Who is going to be doing what in that time to get to a point that the festival wants them to headline or whatever. Who re emerges too. Their formula needs to finally change and it was apparent with the Neil Young Booking. Been saying it, theyre gonna run out of 70 year olds to trot out onto the stage and youll have to move on. Theyll have to adapt some more to whats going on. I mean look how they missed out on Sabrina and Chappell even before they hit it big. Their timing is just off for certain things and the fallow year might slightly muck it up. Its crazy how this all literally would be "fixed" if the poster had Oasis and Pulp on it. Did they truly make an attempt at Rihanna? Talking Heads? Kate Bush? Sade?

The next reason it's made me sad, is I think that maybe the magic of the festival has worn off. Maybe it's a general thing, maybe it's just me, but I think the festival has lost the ability to pull in the big stars. Looking beyond the headliners, we've got a lot of things which look to be pretty landfill. Look back in the last decade or so and check out some huge names that somehow ended up on in the middle of the day or just came out of nowhere that made us go "Wow, where did that come from!?" Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking we've seen Billie Eilish and Stormzy play daytime sets, we've had Pharrell sub Kanye West, we had Miley Cyrus pop up out of nowhere in 2019. Motorhead were just thrown in the 2015 lineup.

 

Where has that magic gone? Instead of them dropping the poster like "Oh yeah by the way we snagged Sabrina Carpenter to go on after Rod Stewart", we have Doechii as probably the biggest WOW artist on the lineup (no shade at her, she's cool AF), and even then we all kinda suspected she'd be there

 

Noah Kahan and Gracie Abrams are both huge names.  The former is literally a BST headliner and he's playing as a sub.

 

Likewise Raye is likely a future headliner.

 

None of them particularly match up with my taste, but they're all very strong bookings that will fill the field.

Gracie Abrams, Noah Kahan, Alanis Morrisette, Raye are all big bookings for non-Headlining slots.

To an extent, this happens every time the first poster drops for me. It's come off the back of months of excited speculation and hopes for the biggest and most thrilling acts we'd each like to see, then the poster drops and many of those names aren't there. They're replaced with acts we don't consider are half as good, or don't know at all. Some of those names reach the top lines, and there's a little voice inside our heads that says times have moved on and we don't quite fit any more.

 

I respond to that voice with the many memories I have of being on the farm, surrounded by people I don't know, but wondering if there's anywhere I fit more than this. I remind myself that if you're a Radio 1 listening, chart-following twenty-something, you're in one of the best places you could ever be, and that if you're in the next generation or two up from that, not quite sure where you fit anymore, you're also in one of the best places you could ever be. Because this festival not only caters for all, it welcomes each one in and gives them some of the best days of the year, wherever they're at.

 

In terms of the line-up, I think the final verdict is when the full stage/times drop because only then will we have all the names (bar any secret sets). I don't need dozens of acts a day to be happy; in fact, that would be too many. Just a handful each day gives me lots to look forward to and plenty of time to go exploring and enjoy unexpected discoveries, which is half the fun, imo. The quality of the first poster is middling for me - quite a few acts I can't wait to see, quite a few I don't care for, and quite a few I'm not familiar with.

Lol. Well Talking Heads spilt up 34 years ago, Kate Bush doesn't play live, Rhianna has no dates announced so far this year and Sade hasn't played live in 14 years.

This will be my 11th Glasto and it’s the first time I’ve thought about giving my ticket up (I obviously never would). 
 

As someone earlier said, the lineup is just missing that something for me. 
 

I won’t be watching any of the pyramid headliners which will be a first. Don’t know how I’ll be watching on Friday night, probably just go for a wander. 
 

I was thinking who would I watch if I was at home and there weren’t many I’d flick the coverage on for instead of watching sport or Netflix. 
 

Good job I’ve been so many times and I know all the proper fun happens away from the main stages.

Honestly, despite what @The_Fishand others say, I don't see it broadly being a divisive set of headliners if you're a music fan. (Sorry, @The_Fish - on mobile and can't find our last conversation response for love nor money!) 

 

I think the booking policy may need to change but they're also potentially locking in future headliners too. If The 1975 remain close to arena-shifting level for another decade, then you've got a repeat headliner down the line you can play the short game with.

feel the same actually..got a big dose of cba at the moment.....just something a bit more interesting would have helped....Pulp or Massive Attack or Lady Gaga or Kraftwerk or something...

My first post in this thread was the Skinner out of touch meme, and that's what I (and clearly I'm not alone) feel about the set of headliners, mostly pyramid but also Other stage. I feel like I'm too old for 2 of the headliners, and too young for the other one. That's not to say that any of them don't deserve to headline or aren't big enough, but as a set it doesn't work for me. It's why I think Fender over 1975 would have been obvious, he crosses generations more than 1975. Of course, some 16 year olds with be big Neil Young fans, and some 70 year olds will be loving 1975/Rodrigo, but generally that's how it feels a bit to me.

 

My main issue with this lineup is that I feel like I'll be running around like a blue arsed fly during the day and then have nothing for the night on any stage. 

 

Like others, I'm left questioning whether it's me or the festival. I guess it's a bit of both really, the festival is moving on (as it should) and I am not the youngster I was on my last visit. We've known the big 6 headliners for a while now, and I knew none of them were for me, but I hoped I'd get some hope from some of the smaller bands that I like that they would headline a smaller stage (The Lathums, Dylan John Thomas, maybe some random Britpop band like Supergrass or Idlewild or something like that - some random amazing stuff that you only can get at Glasto) and none of that has occurred. 

 

I'll still have a great weekend and I'm very much looking forward to going, but it's not quite what I hoped from the poster.

If you’re looking for classic big 90s acts it’s lacking but there’s loads of great stuff there.  Of the 27 acts I want to see most of them I’ve discovered in the last few years. As a 51 year old this doesn’t make it any less exciting than if my favourite bands from my younger decades were playing. 
 

I also think people compare too much to the one off years that were stacked to their particular music tastes.  2022 was insane for me, 40+ acts I wanted to see and loads of my absolute favourites.  But that isn’t going to happen every year.. most years there are 20-30ish I like and a handful of acts I’m very excited about.
