2027 Headliners

Very low chance of it being 3 men like your suggesting - especially after a fallow year where theres lots of choice!

I don't think they would be worried about 3 new headliners if they are safe names - Green Day, RHCP, AC/DC and Iron Maiden would all be 'safe' names as are Fender, Chappell and Sabrina at this point. No chance of SZA 2.0 with any of them at least even if some are questionable at best (RHCP).

So let’s have a look at that. Green Day are incredibly dull pop somehow pretending to be “punk”, but for some reason are very popular. RHCP are just rubbish. AC/DC only have one song which they repeat for 2 hours or whatever and may well be too expensive. Iron Maiden are at least slightly interesting and have some comedy value, but not sure they’re either a “safe bet” or that popular.

Anyway, bollocks to “safe bets”, three acts of old duffers or three dull  bland new acts.

Interesting about the three male acts, which I totally get…it wouldn’t be a good look for the festival. Maybe if they got a strong female Legend Slot act (e.g. Cher, Celine Dion), it would draw less attention to a male dominated top line like 2023.

I would be curious to know what types of diversity Emily and her team consider when drawing up the top line of their festival…there’s so many types to consider that there’s no perfect solution.

Then I can see an older legacy guitar act. I can't think of many still going who haven't already done it (U2, Foos, Metallica, GNR, Stones, Springsteen, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, The Who, Muse multiple times, all ticked off). So thinking of acts who've never headlined, Green Day are a very strong option and would actually go down well. There's always RHCP too, though they're notoriously hit-or-miss live. Or perhaps even someone like Iron Maiden or AC/DC?

I thought there was a thing about Glasto refusing to book RHCP ever for being stood up by them in the late 90s.

Green Day feel like an act that have been an almost-but-not-quite for a while given they seem to have been frequently in the UK around Glasto time but not quite got it over the line.

There is. Michael has publicly confirmed it more than once, and with there even being a report out there that they offered to play for free to replace Kylie when she pulled out in 2005 but were turned down.

And yes, I know Michael is not directly involved in booking the headliners these days. But does anyone seriously think that Nick / Emily / whoever would knowingly ignore his (publicly and unequivocally expressed) distaste? Especially for a spent force of a band.

Aye, RHCP are not the band you're going to overrule on.

The disdain really must run deep given that 2005 story. Not least as RHCP actually weren't even touring in 2005 so would've just been popping in for free for the day. But yeah, evidently, whatever happened was enough to ensure that's never gonna happen.

Although given the Chilis can draw enough people to fill stadiums in London on outrageously high ticket prices, I'm sure they'll be just fine settling for that.

Who could they wheel out that would please you enough to visit the Pyramid, Skip?

Lady Gaga

Good shout... I'm surprised she's not been back since 2009 but it's entirely possible for 2027!

It will be almost 20 years since 'The Fame' though, so she's in danger of falling into your 'old duffers' category 🙂

Hopefully both, and then Oasis as the third headliner. It'll be a white men with guitars remontada.😎

Radiohead and foos both headlines the same year in 2017 though. Would they have 2 of the same headliners again? That's why I'm thinking only 1 of them for 2027.

    • Primavera refunding day tickets which are probably a negligible percentage of attendees yesterday.
    • Thursday day tickets being refunded. Fair play.
    • I’ve had a good sleep and I feel weirdly zen about the whole thing.   My first Primavera, so not the greatest first impression. I guess today couldn’t be any worse, right?   Thoroughly enjoyed Men I Trust and Geese. Cupra is a beautiful stage and the crowd seemed fun, friendly and engaged.   I think it probably could have gone even worse, considering how dangerous the crowding felt at times.   Anyway, we go again.
    • Brighton centre is a weird old venue for the Mary Wallopers - a great band, a really good live spectacle, and its a saturday night as well which sets it all up - but its at the bloody Centre? a charmless nonsense of a conference centre? Brighton dome is a ten min walk away and is so much nicer a place to see bands its ridiculous!    ah well, i'll probably mosy along anyways . . .
    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
