They tried for Madonna last year and it didn't pan out. SZA wasn't their first choice by a long shot.

Too true. Wishful thinking on my part.

But main point is that’s the stratospheric level that Sunday headliners should be, to bring the thing to a rapturous close. GenZ popsters are great, but not for that slot in that spot!

Probably, but SZA played BST on the Saturday and Dua wanted to do Friday.

Hmmm - I can see how that would have made this the only real way to structure them as they did last year.

Well either that or have SZA play BST Sunday. Particularly as Kings of Leon could've played Hyde Park's Saturday looking at their schedule.

And yet Kendrick did just fine on the Sunday in 2022.

BST are presumably paying more money so they get to call the shots on what happens when.

So true. Maybe last year was just a bit of a one off then?

Did they make more of planning departures in general advice and ended up freaking people offsite early?

beating traffic is a bad thing or trying to keep people on site so they spend money and make the aerial drone shots look pretty for the tv viewers.....

If too many people try to 'beat traffic' they become  the traffic they were trying to beat.

Some people always leave on Sunday - it's expected.  Too many people leave on Sunday and this can cause problems.

Last year was (hopefully) a one off, but SZA aside I'm not really sure what the root cause was.  True the Janelle -> Burna Boy -> SZA run didn't offer much for the dadrock demo - but as the old saying goes, plenty on elsewhere

People leaving were telling us there was nothing that they really wanted to see.

I dont think there was, The National had a tiny crowd, James Blake and London Grammar and Justice have their niche audiences but not enough to make people stay and weren't even on stages big enough to make that much of a difference. We ended up watching The Feeling.

It does seem like they booked the other stages for a massive headliner and got stuck.

That makes a lot of sense. I love The National and their set was glorious but they’re a small Other headliner. The Pyramid was entirely channeled towards a younger crowd and that didn’t work. We were heading down from The Park before London Granmar and there was a lot heading the other way so I think they got a decent showing and my mate who went to Justice said that was busy. It does seem like they were expecting a Stevie Wonder that night.

Last year for me …. Just shows how varied it is and how well they cater for many different tastes

Yeah last year was a superb line up in my eyes. Headliners were a good mix of old favourites and a big name I like but wouldn’t have paid to go see in a stadium. Plenty of stuff to dance to (Sofia Kourtesis, Con Man, K-Klass, LCD), some up and comers (Last Dinner Party, Blondshell, Newdad, The K’s) and then all the way back to the Manfreds. Brilliant.

I’ve been told that Kasabian have 100% been booked.

I think it's safe to say that doesn't have any business in this thread these days.

(can't see them being back this year either)

By Sunday I am usually very much done, 5 days are long time for a light weight. I think that might be the case for a few others too. They need some decent headliners on the last night to keep people there, for me Olivia Rodrigo is not it.

I know that most of us here are fanatics, and that's not really representative, but I'm always amazed when discussing Glastonbury on reddit at how many people admit to leaving on Saturday or early on Sunday.  Personally I want to drag every second I can out of being on site, but a lot of people apparently have had enough by mid-weekend and getting home early is seen as being a good idea.

It baffles me, and I’m 47. Every time could be the last time so might as well make the most of it.

I think people feel 2 much pressure to be on site at first chance Wed - or even queueing overnight - I think if realistically are gonna run out of energy before the end of the festival they probably would be better off arriving a lot later.

I can't really testify to if it is the disaster people make it out if you wanna get a tent pitched on Thur or even Fri - as i normally volunteer - but ive know others get somewhere to camp.

    • Cool, if potentially completely exhausting, idea.
    • We don't have any choice but I don't need a t-shirt for it! 🙂    On the bright side, it gets it out of the way for a nice 5 year run... notwithstanding wars, new contagious diseases and apocalypse.
