Hi all,

Did Glasto with a baby this year but we just carried him in a harness the whole time so it was easy as he was only 6months.

Next year we will have the challenge of an 18month old, bigger and a lot more moving.

What's the best option for moving around the festival with them? Ideally once we set off the for the day that's us all day. Currently have a hiking backpack and a little nipper sport which has big wheels, but not sure they're big enough if we get a bad mud year.

We took a 2008 model of this last year

we were there (pre bub) 2015, this will handle the mud, just need a paint scraper to clean the mud down if needs be

The 2008 model was still manufactured in Nee Zealand and has a much higher weight capacity ie build/component quality

wheels look decent similar size to our bike trailer wheels which only struggled in 2016 and that was quite a bit to do with the brakes getting clogged up with straw and wood chip ... that front wheel mudguard might be better removed to prevent this

Agreed - that front wheel would get clogged immediately in sticky mud.

I've tried a few things over the years and nothing beats the bike trailer. It should be fairly easy to pick up a local second hand one off eBay between now and next June. Something like this:

Bike trailers are also brilliant for carrying stuff. They can hold enormous weights while remaining very easy to push due to the size of the wheels. In addition, they're pretty lightweight and they fold flat to fit in the car easily.

Our kids are way too big for ours now so we use it solely for carrying our heavy things to/from the car. But even when they were smaller we made them walk while the tent and beer went in the bike trailer 😄. Unfortunately my partner has some serious back problems which have become worse over recent years, so we're planning to pick up another trailer for this year to make things easier.

I am thinking of using a garden trolley like this because it has clearance for mud and wide wheels and a flat bottom so a 1yr old can lie flat and sleep.... do you think it will work?  I would make a canopy for shade/rain protection....It seems to me that if the terrain is bad I would rather be pulling than pushing...

Croozer bike trailer all the way. Had a 2 and 4 year old in this year and will use it again next year. I got mine second hand off Facebook for £100, there are lots on there so should be one near you to buy. They are really good quality and so easy to push. Had the kids, 24 cans of cider and 2 tents on it on the way in and was still easy to push

Had one of these Phil & Teds (2nd hand) in 2014, got muddy as big thunderstorm but served us well, never got stuck anywhere.

 

Main thing is the inflatable tyres, less likely to break and can take a spare and puncture repair kit in case.

yes - we took one of these... def better than one of those trolleys if muddy

We used one of these when our 2 were younger. I still have it as it's great as you say fir carrying stuff and i use it solely for that now.  I prefer it as it's push rather than pull which is better for my back.

One like this is fine.. Been taking mine over 10 years.. A few wheel changes and punctures but has lasted brilliantly.

We did Beautiful Days 2021 with one of those buggies. Daughter was 10 months at the time. It was muddy and it handled the terrain brilliantly. It was ideal as it had a rain cover and you can strap her in. The trailers are great for older kids, but bear in mind the terrain is uneven and the trailer will be bouncing around all over the place. For any child under 3 you really want something you can strap them into.

We've now outgrown our Phil and Ted double buggy, though it saw us through quite a few festivals. We now need something for our 5 and 2.5 year old to share at night.  For those of you that used bike trailers, did you get an expensive brand (secondhand or otherwise), or did the cheaper versions hold it up against glasto terrain? It needs to be strong and durable.  I'd like to get a few years out of it too.  I don't mind investing if needed, but do the cheaper versions do the job just as well?

I used an Out n About Nipper for a 4 year old in 2016 (a lot of mud). It was great. Also used it to cart items in and out that year and last year.

Having done may festivals with 2 young kids I can also vouch for the bike trailers. If you can get one with a swivelling front wheel its easier to push about and its stronger as the wheel is attached in two places, i have had adults sat in ours before.

Fabsil the fabric and its good for all weathers. Done our kids proud up till the age of 6/7.

The tow bar shown in the pic below folds under the trailer out the way when not in use.

You can also get a lot of camping gear in these things on way in!

Going to start getting my bike trailer pimped up soon. Last year I used a old tent pole about 2 metres high which I wrapped lots of multi coloured lights around. being a tent pole I kept it down during the day then as it got dark put it up and turned the lights on. Worked great for people to see we we coming and also easy for us to spot if we went to the bar. I also wrapped some lights around the side of the trailer but one of the kids got their foot stuck on it and snapped it on the first day so had no more lights. This year I'm thinking of E-wire which looks really good, anyone used this before?

ha ha just talking about EL wire with my mates and deciding the colour im using for Pyramid frame ... what do you want to know ? blue gives a decent tron effect . you can buy on Amazon or ELwirecraft.co.uk
