It's not Glastonbury specific so I doubt they will give any information like this!

It's more likely to happen on our training, Green Field Stewards, which is more Glastonbury specific and run by Glastonbury staff.

I thought post-pando they'd give us a choice, to be honest.

I had to do a speed awareness course the other week (my first in 25 years of driving, don't judge me!) and I could chose to do that online or in person in a classroom setting.

I guess online is cheaper!

No judgments here, i did one about six months ago, my first speeding offence too 😄 i was driving the new unit car at work for the first time and got pinged coming into Brighton off the a27. I'm blaming the car!

im not all that used to zoom meetings and everything thats sprung up over the last few years, i work in a hospital so during COVID was just coming in, no working from home alas!  i prefer actually meeting people and interacting with them, that might well be a bit old fashioned i suspect . . .

My next question is aimed at the rulebreakers here... has anyone dodged a shift or done a runner once in the festival? If so, what were the repercussions (if any) and did it put you off going back to the Avalon for the remainder of the festival? (I'm not planning on doing this - I feel very fortunate to have a place on the team - it's more out of curiosity).

If you've missed a shift, you might be able to get away with if there's a bloody good reason and you offer to do an extra shift to make up the one you've missed.

In my experience of working at Shelter - if there's something you *really* want to see and are unable to get the shift swapped, you should be able to talk around the bar manager to let you get your break while they are on.

If you're even thinking of doing a runner.  Don't. Shelter will know who are you and if you returned to the shelter camp, you will get escorted off site.  There is talk of a blacklist that's shared, I don't know if it is true or not but I'd assume (to an extent) it is shared between the main volunteering groups.

I really enjoyed working the bars for Shelter.  Probably the most fun I've had volunteering.  If you've ever done bar work before it's an absolute doddle and would happily do it again should I fail to get tickets.

the training is really generic and simplistic to be honest, any info they use will likely be well out of date and probably not glastonbury-specific. I quite enjoyed meeting up with others and making it more of a social occasion when i last did it, but can also see the benefit of doing it from home in my pants too 😄 mine is a week today, 19/04

My Oxfam training is on 19th too. Second time for this. The first one 4 years ago was on line too

Did my steward training last year, so good for another 4 years. TBH I like the online option, saves me having to travel.

Same. My closest was Manchester, hour and a half away but always at times/dates I couldn't do. Last time I had to do in person ended up in Leeds, two and a half hours away! Much prefer online.

I did miss an Oxfam nightshift in 2016 without having to make up for it, but that was after going to the medical tent and being handed a letter that said I probably had food poisoning 😅 Not sure punters would have much liked getting my lunch on their shoes whilst having their ticket checked.

Hi everyone,

I have a Glastonbury volunteer place with Oxfam, but still waiting on a friend to get a place too. First time since going as a punter in 2017, we failed in the main sale again at payment stage.

My cancellation deadline states Tuesday 25th April. Does this mean I can cancel on the Tuesday to get my deposit back or does it need to be done before this (on Monday)?

Secondly, does anyone have an indication of when the release of more volunteer places will be? I’m aware that more will come up after the resale on the 23rd but are they likely to appear before my cancellation deadline?

I think as long as you send the email on the deadline day you will be ok.

Places have poped up but not many at all this year. A bunch will pop up after the resale but again cant see it being that many. They may wait and put all the cancelled spots on at once in May.

All the other festivals on the Oxfam web site have been coming and going since the original sale day including today.

Very limited Glastonbury spaces which I missed 😩

Next batch will be after the resale and I expect the odd ones to come up right until a few days before the festival.

Just joined the Oxfam training tonight. No mic and no camera. Was no need for me to dress up

How was it?  It sounds just like a box ticking exercise to be honest.  The lack of interaction is concerning.  I wonder if there will be lots of new stewards who just don't have a clue about anything!

I thought it was excellent and the speaker was engaging which is hard given the lack of interaction. Good use of the chat box and text Q&A.  Some odd comments from newbies but I suppose, if you’ve not been before, you’ve got to ask.  It’s the only way to do it with 150+ on the session so given that, it’s a thumbs up from me.

For people like you and I, there isn’t much new (massive caveat) if you’ve stewarded a few times and retained information from the on site briefings at festivals you’ve already attended.  The lawyer in me doesn’t mind a baseline being created as you need this type of thing in your due diligence folder, especially if you are Oxfam/Glasto size.

You’ll enjoy it as a refresher.  You can’t switch it on and wander off (I know you wouldn’t, more directed at others reading), they have a way to testing you at the end. So pay attention lol

(I won’t say how they test as I don’t want to encourage people not to listen. If you’re listening it isn’t a test you can fail.  Literally impossible to fail)

So, I've just tried to book my training for Oxfam and its telling me the next available time is in July?!?! Which obviously doesnt make any sense at all. Has anyone else had this problem? I've emailed them directly but thought maybe someone on here would be able to help.

Sometimes they provide a pre-recorded version. It will get sorted when the office pick up the email. It will be fine, there is always a solution

Hey. Just been given my shifts for the recycling crew and it's the evening team 😭 6 till 11 has anyone done those shifts and can make me feel not so gutted about it with some positives about this shift?

Not done those shifts but at least it means you can have a late night/early morning and not have to worry about getting up for a 6am start.

I would also imagine as you'll be able to hear some music from the stages whilst you work.
