So we went to WBA and seemed to be playing for a draw courtesy of a game where both sides looked pretty hopeless, while Fulham go to Anfield and add to Liverpool's pain, meaning they get even closer to us. Even counting for the fact Fulham's next match is against Manchester City, I really don't think they're going to be staying behind Newcastle for long.

In Bruce-ball, if you play for a 0-0, and to occasionally kick the ball off opposing players for corners, you'll get just enough 1-0 wins off set pieces to stay up.

Yay Bruce-ball.

Well, it worked in 2019-20, given we were effectively safe by this point last season through results mainly won through games like that. This season, not so much. WBA today was playing against a side who play like that as well, so little wonder it was a trudge that must have the Amazon Prime people wondering why they had this palmed off on them.

It worked for a given definition, in that it avoided relegation. It's also miserable and turgid.

Looking pretty interesting down at the bottom now...not for us, obviously, but suddenly there’s a little interest.

Still hoping for a Fulham v Newcastle winner takes all match on the last day.

Only one team coming out of that shoot out alive and it is not Newcastle

On current trajectory, the winner take all game might well be the Brighton v Newcastle game in 2 weeks. Which will be interesting, given neither seems able to score but for very different reasons.

Well yes. It's a strange one that arguably our best attacking displays last season (3-0 v Sheffield United and 4-1 at Bournemouth) came behind closed doors post-lockdown. Most of the ones last season just came across as a bit of a mush where our defenders bailed out our attackers going forward, and it's bizarre how we got some decent players in last summer only to then go backwards, especially since Christmas. This one felt almost as bad as that defeat at Sheffield United in January, and least in that one we had the excuse of a first half red card.

It's not a great sign our best hope looks like either Fulham's recovery running out of track or Brighton's inability to score and continuing to make their high XG rate look accidental.

City to do a Liverpool and united to nick it. 🤣

Enjoy your day mate. Styles makes fights and you sucker punched us. It was the perfect storm yesterday.

I jest, city will win it by a mile this season. Can't see a pep or the city to crumble like the scousers.

I'm obviously talking about the attacking perspective on hand ball. The defensive perspective has nothing to do with my post so not really relevant.

It is relevant that some you get, some you don't.

Chelsea look excellent. A really what if season, if they'd of got rid of fat frank earlier they should of be competing with city for the title. Terrible under performance at the start with that squad.

Going to be interesting next season with city, chelsea and United(if they get a proper goalscorer in) challenging for the title.

Very true. But I'm talking about two instances which directly influence one another. The rule is a double negative for attacking players. Offside because of your arm, goal ruled out because of your arm.

We actually started okay and were top of the league at one point. Frank was sacked after our first drop in form. Agree that we look loads better. Tactically much more cohesive.

Yeah though this season squad size and quality was always going to be a trump card due to the condensed length.

Liverpool have their injuries which everyone knows about, Leicester with a load out and seem to be struggling. Everton tonight, the bench looks thread bare, Doucoure out is massive. James has been in and out and not really right since Van Dijk did him in the derby, sadly Gomes isn't the same player after the leg break against Spurs.
