these are for over 65s only at the moment, so presumably would be a third dose a few months after theyve already had their second dose.

I don't think thats in the JVCI's purview with reagrds to delaying June 21st. Thats up to SAGE. Id be surprised though, my reading of it is that its a precaution so they DONT have to lock us up over winter

That's exactly how I read it too.

Is that it? If that’s as far as they expect to be on test events by the middle of May. A socially distanced cup final even with testing then the idea we’re going back to normal 5 weeks later is a bit of a reach.

Weird how we all interpret these things. I thought 20,000 in one place in middle of May was going great guns. Though i am so fucked off with all this now i may be interpreting it in a positive way that suits me at the moment

I just find the idea that 20k tested people still having to be socially distanced is not a trial for a full Wembley weeks later and 100’s of thousands stood in fields watching live music for the rest of the summer, it’s a trial for more social distancing.

Sad to see the Italian numbers on the rise once more ... really hope Europe starts to get a grip on the situation ...  wonder if our numbers might eventually start persuading people in other countries to start taking the jab otherwise I struggle to see how they get this under control

How in the 3 months we have left would you fit it in then ? I think it’s going to look weird whatever we do ? The London Underground going back to normal carries 2m people per day ... and there is no way that’s going to require a test ...

It's one of the main reasons they can't go straight into no restrictions, they have to test how things are with fans of x amount see the effects of that then they can press ahead. They can't skip out that faze and go to having no restrictions in place.

It's all really normal and is definitely a good sign!

The FA cup final should be the trial, the proper trial of a return to normality. Everybody needs to test negative 24/48 before the match and you aggressively test everybody in the week or 2 following the match.

That’s how you properly trial whether it’s safe to return to normal, you don’t learn anything from a socially distanced event.

I only saw this because Rory Stewart himself tweeted it, but bloody hell he called it totally right. This was while the government was faffing around, seemingly doing very little:

He had experience with Ebola that informed this position.

I shared one from Joe Politics (I think) from a few days ago where they had an interview with Rory Stewart from that day in 2020 where he called for schools to close and ban crowds. He got it bang on.

I always like the comparative on this one .... so even with the kids back and the very high levels of testing the numbers seem to be dropping further ... massively positive for the steps to come 🙂 ..... tomorrow im off to say hello to my mum and will be going for a walk with my folks first time ive seen them since boxing day  .... brighter times are on the way folks just hang in there for a little longer

Lovely walk with Wife, Daughter and my 2 friends + their daughter this afternoon.

Parks busy and people out enjoying the sunshine, it’s nice to see that folk are using their logic in regards to outside socialising.

Maybe they're also limiting the numbers due to the need to manage the fans through the gates with their negative tests, etc? Could be a full-scale clusterfuck if they go big and try and manage 90,000 at the first attempt? Don't forget, it's also been twelve months since the staff have worked. I'm sure some kind of refresher is required!

Like others, I'm trying to put a positive spin on it at the moment but I can definitely see how there's some scepticism. May 17 seems like a long way away still and despite all the numbers going in the right direction, it's easy for our opinions to see-saw from one way to the other on a seemingly hourly basis at the moment. Each of the proper milestones can't come quick enough...

Maybe a touch too early to see any real effect of the kids returning to school? If it's similar this time next week, we're in business

I went out on my walk earlier despite there blowy conditions and from what I can see it's just people on their own or couples. People seem to be following the rules where I am with no group's, I guess they are waiting for the 29th when the rule of 6 kicks in.

yep true although the testing will be catching the positive  kids ... making them isolate and stopping it spreading the relatively small numbers in kids is a hopefull sign that the impact of a return won't hopefully push the numbers up too much

I agree with what you say. I just feel like the next logical step from roughly a quarter full is maybe 50% and then 75% before going for full capacity. The Final is on the 15th May, the idea that 37 days after the 25% test we’ll be at full capacity seems highly unlikely.
We can all argue about the speed of the roadmap until we’re blue in the face, but that’s not the point I’m trying to make here.
The only way to find out how safe or unsafe it will be to have large non socially distanced events is to actually trial large non socially distanced events. Either we’re heading into 21st June blind and hoping for the best, or they’re overselling how much normality there will be on the 21st June.

I see the kids going back as the real acid test. As I say, if we can keep the numbers stable over the next few weeks, I really think the roadmap is realistic. Fingers crossed.

    • TVOD are playing Blue Basement in London 2/9 with a complete EOTR/Psych Fest shaped hole before their next gig in Lyon on 8/9. Well received in the Big Top last year, reckon they're nailed on for a secret set in the Tipi.
    • Didn't they widen the entrance last year to enable them to increase the number of pitches or have I imagined this? Perhaps they might return under a different form of glamping?    Just had another thought - Or even rent the land to the festival for CV pitches.......
    • It should forever be the Tipi.   Just as the news about Geese was shared on Twitter.
    • It really surprised me that Rock AM Ring made Download feel like an extremely well organised festival with good communication in comparison. If we were to ever try either of them again we would go for IM Park and stop in Nuremberg.     Agree that the long thin mainstage isn't great, but where the mainstage is makes it really hard to navigate when it is busy because of that choke point created by the food vendors, bar/lounges with a view of main and where the crowd is coming form second stage. The concrete is hard on the joints. The front standing is a pisstake and the communication from the fest about what is happening on site other than which campsites are filling up leaves a lot to be desired. Car parks being a free for all doesn't help either.   I think it really suffers being so far from anything other than small towns/villages that lack proper public transport and Koblenz being the closest town which you can can use to get public transport to the fest being 60km away.
    • Yeah its absolutely on me that isn't think Shinia Twain was an awful choice- i get that.  Im still of the paul simon, ELO kind of thoughts but I realise things change. Im still intrigued what constitutes legend though. Robert plant played and he wasn't a legend slot- to me that would have fitted. Is it a ' comedy ' ' good time ' slot now? Comedy isn't the right word - guilty pleasure or something like that?
