Just look at that crowd, listen to those tunes, mimic that sax and then tell me he wouldn't do top spot on the Pyramid justice.

 

Of all three acts heavily touted, he's the one I'm most confident in knocking out the crowd, and that's saying something given Olivia Rodrigo has the big singles and The 1975 have an immaculate live show.

It was a hugely cathartic moment.

After the previous two years of sh*t, the buzz in the air at that festival just felt different. 
 

It was the usual Glasto feeling plus 20%.

We took our spot about 20 metres or so in front of the big tree at the back of the field, as I looked around I had this huge wave of emotion. 

Finally, we were back. 

We had a group of 20 or so Geordies to our right, in full on party mode. 
 

Sam and the band brought their A game, the sun was going down behind the best stage in the world and everyone in that field was lapping it up. 

In my top 5 Glasto moments.

I think it's very hard to see someone doing justice on a stage if you've no interest in them.

Agree with all of this, the setting and timing were absolutely perfect for him.  I’m soppy too as you could see how much it meant to him so just made it all the better

Agreed. When you can see how much it means to an act, it also serves to amplify things.

Wolf Alice that year another huge example of that. 
 

The Streets and Barry Can’t Swim this year. 
 

Crowd connection is key.

Tbf I think the adrenaline given they barely made it back to the UK from California thanks to flight problems and that they probably therefore weren't aware of what day/time it was helped.

Feels like the vibe at most festivals tbf, not least one with the size and sprawl of Glastonbury. I know that in 2019, much as Stormzy earned his spot at that space/time and went down well, I probably would've been at Interpol in the Woodsies because I'm that stale and predictable a 2000s rock boy. Or indeed that last Glasto just gone, I genuinely may well have skipped the Pyramid Stage altogether.

I'm not saying that's an issue going somewhere else to see someone. I'm just saying if you aren't into an act like even as a probable I'll check them out time I did with George Ezra for example then it won't happen for you.

I say this tbf as someone who knows they'd have been at The National instead.

Was initially a nay-sayer, but after watching that 2022 performance back I'll be at the front for Fender in 2025. Absolute class.

Isn't that what festivals are for? If it's there and you're happy you don't necessarily need to see them again, why not take a chance on the alternative. It's why I think I might have seen St Vincent instead of The Killers at Mad Cool 2022 when they were both inexplicably on at the same time.

Agree entirely. Our group still talk about this. I'll be watching it back on the projector in a couple of weeks with some of our Glasto group at our Xmas session.

Of all the armchair sets I've consumed over the years, Fender in '22 might genuinely be in the top ten for me. That's a lot of music I've watched over the past decade and a bit on the box too.

I went to Fender as lots of people I know like him and are all surprised that I don’t. I’ve got to say I left the same way, I really just don’t get it. I accept the general opinion was he smashed it and he seems like a good bet for a headliner.

Rarely are they used though, apparently it’s a logistical nightmare getting up Barrack Road with all the gear.
