Its not just a gig thing, it's costs of everything going up. People blame just greed, but it's the squeezing of all leisure money, all disposable income down to just work, travel to and from work and sleep. From fuel down to security, everything is and will continue to get more expensive. Less and less will be able to afford gigs as time goes on, but it's a symptom of the general society. Nobody is running a gig venue or putting on a tour at a loss.

Sold out a few shows per the poster release ahead of it, as mentioned above, and I think Bournemouth and Birmingham both officially sold out too. (The metrics and goalposts can always be moved, of course.)

But it was telling that it was a pretty small arena tour too. Plumping for Leeds over Manchester is a smart move for any artist that size; smaller arena, so theoretically an easier sell, and well-served by transport links from Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle too. Surprised more artists don't make London, Birmingham, Leeds and Glasgow a regular four-piece.

Like, that SP/Weezer tour. If they'd done Leeds over Manchester's Co-op Live, sales would look a lot better.

Mumford couldn't even sell out a uk exclusive APE day btw - they are hardly massive anymore

Absolutely. In another world, they should have had the crack in 2014 over Arcade Fire, or had they toured in 2015, been in the frame to fill either Foo Fighters or take the Sunday spot The Who moved belatedly into.

Their stock has fallen so hard from their zenith a decade ago. It's fascinating to see.

I saw the latter half at Leeds Festival 2015 and quite enjoyed it. But they were starting to dip then already. It kind of just went off a cliff afterwards.

More surprised they didn't stick around doing their Gentlemen of the Road events. Reckon that with a judicious support bill, they could still play 20,000-capacity open-air events.

Just failed to get Air tickets for their one show in London next March, 2,500 capacity apparently the venue allowed 2,000 of them to go to o2 priority....ffs.

People can call Glastonbury out for booking old acts all they like, but when I see McFly, Busted and Jason Donovan all announce shows in 2023, I think it's society that needs a telling off
