Why aren't you a Gold Member?

  1. 1. So lots of us use this site a lot but still aren't Gold Members, given the site needs money why is that?

    • I'm used to the model of getting things for free on the internet so don't like the idea of paying.

I like the 'Gold Members only' efest's meet with the finest wines. And the key to the executive toilet.

You forgot about the Monorail tickets!

Me too.  I pay for the @SecretGlasto account on here simply so the secret sets thread can be edited for a bit longer.  It's worth it for the speed.  So, so much faster without the ads.  Go gold folks, you won't regret it!

I paid for it twice by mistake cause I'm an eejit

not necessarily an idiot. :P

For those who've been signed as gold for a number of years the system changed, and those who still have remnants of the old system it can be confusing. It confuses me enough and I know what's happened with it.

For new sign-ups it shouldn't be confusing.

Don't the ads bring in similar revenue to a gold membership?

In theory, that's what it was priced to do. Whether it does or not I've actually got no idea.

I'm happy for people to do either. The ad-free option exists because people asked for it, and not for any other reason.

I don't understand the need for a guilt trip.

I'm not sure it's that, is it? It wasn't me that started this topic, for a start.

I took it as people being supportive - and thanks for that :) - and putting another option in people's faces for them to choose or not. It's a solution to the problematic ads that is a problem for some, and is a problem the ad industry don't seem to be getting a handle on fixing.

Sad fact is I'm £20k in debt via the site, and it's why Scottie is no longer employed here - so any and all revenue is welcome, because I can't afford to carry another penny of that nor can I afford to carry it without paying it off.

Correct. When the site is clearly unviable, you'll wake up one morning and it'll be gone.

Pleasingly it's not going to be that anytime soon, but only because there's one less person in the world with a job (not Scott, who I'm pleased to say got himself sorted with something he's very happy with).

Just out of interest, does the fallow year mean a drop in revenue? I know you cover other festivals, but guessing Glastonbury creates the most traffic?

People used to kick sand in my face when I was on the beach, but since I went Gold this no longer happens. They just shit on my head now. Actually, I initially thought that getting Gold Membership gave the site more money than the adverts do. I now know this not to be the case, but still keep the membership because having no annoying adverts is great. I only recently discovered that it also meant that you could see who has up voted or down voted a post. I had been blissfully unaware that this wasn't something all people could see.

in general things have been better in Glasto fallow years, because people need to find out more about where to go instead. There's more to this site than just the forums, the people here are only about 10% of the people who visit the website each day.

Aye go on then, when you put it like that. My laziness needed a kick up the arse!

Payment processing:)
